Systems Insight Manager 6.2 Installation and Configuration Guide for MS Windows

5 Installing HP Insight Remote Support Advanced
The HP Insight Remote Support Advanced software is integrated with HP Systems Insight Manager and
provides comprehensive remote monitoring, notification/advisories, dispatch and proactive service support
for nearly all HP servers, storage, network, SAN environments and selected multivendor devices. HP Insight
Remote Support Advanced is targeted to larger networks, data centers, and mission critical or business
critical support levels. It also enables HP to deliver higher levels of proactive support in line with HP Mission
Critical Services support agreements. The HP contract and warranty entitlement feature of HP Systems Insight
Manager requires this software plug-in to be installed.
After the HP Systems Insight Manager installation is complete, users can install and configure HP Insight
Remote Support Advanced by using the shortcut on the CMS desktop to download the software from the HP
Software Depot at http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/
displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=RSADVANCED.
The process for installing and configuring HP Insight Remote Support Advanced is documented in the
HP
Insight Remote Support Advanced CMS Configuration and Usage Guide
available at www.hp.com/go/
insightremoteadvanced-docs.
Device and access requirements
HP Insight Remote Support Advanced is supported only on ProLiant servers running supported versions of
Windows. See the
Insight Remote Support Advanced Release Notes
for the most current supported versions.
Several components, including the Remote Support Software Manager user interface, require administrator
privileges on the Windows operating system. If you do not have an account with administrative privileges,
please contact your Remote Support Account Team for more information or assistance.
The Remote Support Software Manager communicates over HTTPS/443. Likewise, the Insight Remote Support
Client component also communicates over HTTPS/443 to submit incidents to and retrieve entitlement
information from the HP Support Center.
HTTPS provides encryption for confidentiality of software configuration data collected from the CMS and
transferred to HP. It is advisable to configure your firewall for both the Insight Remote Support Client and
the Remote Support Software Manager before installing HP Insight Remote Support Advanced. If your policies
require IP addresses, please see
HP Insight Remote Support Advanced and Remote Device Access Security

The Remote Support Software Manager communicates directly with the HP Support Center through the firewall
or web proxy server (if a web proxy server is in use). The Remote Support Software Manager supports
connecting directly to the Internet or connecting through a proxy server and supports all proxy servers
conforming to the HTTP/1.0 Specification. The Remote Support Software Manager
does not
support proxies
using proxy auto-configuration scripts, NTLM authentication (also known as Integrated Windows
Authentication), or Kerberos authentication.
It is required that the CMS use DNS resolution to determine the IP addresses for the HP Support Center
(services.isee.hp.com, etc.). Redundant data centers exist that provide improved availability and
performance. The determination of which data center should receive traffic from the CMS is performed by
a Global Server Load Balancer (GSLB), which directs traffic based on name server resolution.
The CMS DNS resolution facilitates the GSLB being able to direct traffic dynamically to the appropriate site.
It is not supported to configure the hosts file with a single IP address of the Remote Support aliases because
there are multiple IP addresses for these aliases.
