HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3 Installation and Configuration Guide for Windows HP Part Number: 418812-005

6. For HP SIM 5.2 and later, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition replaces MSDE. When HP SIM is upgraded
on a system that has an MSDE database installed by a previous version of HP SIM or an HP SIM partner,
the MSDE database is detected and is migrated to the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition database. The
original MSDE database is not altered and still remains on the system untouched.
If you are upgrading HP SIM on a system that already has SQL Server, SQL Server 2005 Express
Edition, or Oracle installed, the database is detected and you can create a new instance and configure
HP SIM to use that instance.
If you are upgrade HP SIM on a system that uses a remotely installed database, the Database
Configuration page appears as shown below. The database information of the existing HP SIM install
is pre-populated. All information except for the user account cannot be edited. Provide the correct
password for the existing account or provide the credentials for another user account with administrative
rights and database access. The installation tests for the administrative rights. Click Next to proceed.
Select from the following database options:
Install and use SQL Express. This option enables you to install and configure HP SIM to use
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
To install and use SQL Server 2005 Express Edition:
1. From the Database Configuration window, select Install and Use SQL Express.
2. In the Username field, the installing user account appears and can be edited. The account
specified must be the user name for the database server.
3. In the Password field, enter the password for the database server.
HP SIM does not support the following in a user name and password:
A blank password
A space followed by a double-quote
A backslash (\)
If you use these characters in your user name or password, the HP SIM database
initialization fails.
