1 Product Release Information for Updates to HP SIM 5.3 HP SIM 5.3 • Support for display of IPv6 addresses HP SIM can display IPv6 address on the System page and data collection reports for the systems that are IPv6 enabled. • Improved Linux identification HP SIM uses SSH to gather basic system hardware information.
2 Known Issues and Workarounds Automatic Event Handling Action on Events tasks (now called Automatic Event Handling tasks) upgraded from HP SIM 4.0 are not executing as expected. This could happen to any Automatic Event Handling task if the task was not executed before upgrading. To correct this issue, edit the tasks with the same settings and save them.
There are situations that may result in particularly slow response times. For example: • Viewing large collections of systems or events. • Specific/custom database queries taking an unexpectedly long time. • Many users simultaneously accessing a shared resource, such as the database. Solution: The maximum number of server connections can be increased in both Internet Explorer and Firefox. The default number of connections is two.
3. 4. Press the Enter key. At the command prompt, enter: service hpsmhd restart 5. Press the Enter key. Central Management Server When you cannot access HP SIM on a Windows system using a full DNS host name, your Windows DNS configuration is not set properly. There are several reasons for this: • The TCP/IP Settings for your Network Connection are not configured properly. following workaround: 1. 2. 3. 4.
If you want the logs to be in a different language (German or English), you have three options: • Stop HP SIM service. Change the default locale of the user account specified in the Log On As property of the HP SIM service (the user that performed the install) to the desired language, and restart the service. • Stop HP SIM service. Change the Log On As user for the HP SIM service to the local administrator account, and be sure its locale is set to the desired language. Restart the service.
Container View If the number of servers in the enclosure exceeds the number of available slots, then not all the servers will be shown in HP SIM. This can happen when the enclosure contains at least one double dense blade (BL2x220c or ProLiant xw2x220c Blade Workstation) and all the slots in the enclosure are populated with the servers. A double dense blade contains 2 servers per blade: and A and a B server.
Data Collection Data Collection reports might report the network interface for HP-UX systems incorrectly. This is due to an issue with SNMP agents on HP-UX. In the future, the HP-UX WBEM provider will include a Link Aggregate Provider to report the network interface on HP-UX systems, and HP SIM can then provide the correct data from the WBEM provider. After an HP SIM upgrade, the Data Collection task might fail when executed.
If data collection of a system fails with the STDOUT error, stating An error occurred connecting to this system with the WBEM protocol. Check the system configuration, then it might be caused by any of the following conditions: • You failed to make appropriate port number entries in the wbemportlist.
Discovery When the number of objects to be collected on any given storage array exceeds the value of ~2500, it is possible that data collection will fail for the array. This is due to a default timeout value of three hours for this operation. There are two ways to resolve the issue: • Configure the array to have a maximum of 2500 collectable objects (volumes, disks, ports, and so on).
the OA IP address correctly, a new Identification or Discovery must be run on the IP address for the secondary OA. ------------------------------------------------------------To access the Automatic Discovery page and perform discovery functions, you must have the System Automatic Discovery tool selected when creating a custom tool box. This tool is found on the Users and Authorizations Toolbox tab under the System Administration category.
4. 5. 6. 7. Upgrade the firmware for the onboard administrator to version 2.25 or later. On the virtual connect Ethernet module, upgrade the virtual connect firmware to version 1.3 or later. Do not enable virtual identifiers at this time. On the virtual connect Ethernet module, enable virtual identifiers. You may now create and assign profiles with virtual identifiers.
NOTE: The community strings used should match those community strings on the CMS. After completing these steps, the system is discovered properly. ------------------------------------------------------------To discover detailed information for Linux running on ProLiant systems, you can do one of the following: • Install the Linux ProLiant agents on the system. • Update the snmpd.conf file. If you choose this option and do not update the snmpd.
Create an event collection, and run the tool through the menus. Refer to the HP Systems Insight Manager Technical Reference Guide in the Administering Systems and Events, Creating a Task to Delete Events Older than Thirty Days and Creating a Task to Delete Cleared Events section.
------------------------------------------------------------For best results, update iLO Management Controller Firmware to version 1.80 or later. HP BladeSystem Integrated Management Manager 2.0 displays additional data about racks and enclosures environmentals if the iLOs on the blades are running this version of firmware of later. ------------------------------------------------------------To associate the McDATA 4Gb SAN Switch for HP BladeSystem (firmware version 5.2.1.xx.
temperature graph is empty. After data has been collected, the temperature graph is inaccessible when navigating to Insight Power Manager. ------------------------------------------------------------When a 24-hour graph displays that has less than 24 hours of history data in it, the Kilowatt-Hour analysis calculation appears to be wrong. The Kilowatt-Hour analysis data covers only available collected history data. If some history data is unavailable, zeros are not assumed.
These tasks must be deleted and added again. This condition does not apply to HP Serviceguard 5.0 being integrated with HP SIM 5.0. ------------------------------------------------------------HP Serviceguard WBEM Provider 1.0 does not provide roll-up status for HP SIM. ------------------------------------------------------------When you install a Serviceguard cluster, there is a default name Serviceguard cluster defined as its cluster name. The cluster node (not the member node) is a non-addressable node.
3. Edit the globalsettings.props file and set JVM heap size larger: vi /etc/opt/mx/config/globalsettings.props a. Insert the following: JVMMAXHEAP=750 b. 4. Save and exit. Start the HP SIM service by running mxstart. Identification Unable to identify ESX 3.x classic servers to have the appropriate system types and subtypes, or no virtual machines can be discovered from the ESC 3.x hosts.
Running SNMP System Type Manager identification. Found matching SNMP System Type Manager rule, added as possible system type Checking for DMI protocol support. The Windows CMS cannot communicate with HP-UX or other DMI, skipping. Running DMI System Type Manager identification. The system does not have Windows DMI support. Running HP-UX DMI identification. The system does not have HP-UX DMI support. Running HP/Compaq Desktop identification. The system does not have Windows DMI support.
To get basic hardware data, such as model, serial number, and UUID, from non-HP x86 servers running VMware ESX Server or Linux, you must configure the ‘root’ user as the Sign-in credential in HP SIM. This is because the Privilege Elevation feature is not used for identification of servers and running dmidecode requires the root privilege. In addition, to identify the VMware ESX server as the VMware ESX Host subtype, the WBEM cimserver on the ESX host must be up and working correctly.
The target status shows failed and there is no output in STDOUT: The credentials supplied are wrong for at least one of the target systems, causing the task to terminate immediately. The log displayed in the Task Results for that system shows Could not log in to host with given credentials. The Task Results for all other systems show a Failed status but no other log information.
The HP SIM installation might not complete successfully on a Linux system with an exceptionally long host name (near 63 characters). ------------------------------------------------------------If the Remote Support Software Manager component installation fails with an unhandled exception in java.exe message attempt to exclude the java.exe executable from the Data Execution Prevention Settings, and then reattempt to install RSSWM from HP SIM. To exclude RSSWM's java.
The Windows installer verifies whether Internet Explorer 6.0 or later is present and, if not, aborts the installation. If Internet Explorer 5.x or earlier is installed, it must be upgraded to Internet Explorer 6.0 or later for the HP SIM install to complete successfully. ------------------------------------------------------------The domain user must be a part of the local administrators group (or domain admin) to run custom commands.
------------------------------------------------------------If you are going to install HP SIM into a Named Instance of an SQL Database, then the Named Instance must be configured with a unique port number. When SQL Server is installed the first time, it installs the Default Instance, and is referred to by its name: MSSQLSERVER. You can install a second copy of SQL Server and give it a unique name; this is a Named Instance.
Locale Certain parts of CLI output might contain system-generated text that always appears in the language indicated by the default CMS locale, not the locale of the user's CLI terminal. This condition can occur following two problems: • This text might provide a localized property key of the TDef file, which is not allowed for TDef input. • This text might be identified by one or more question mark (?) character strings appearing in the CLI output. The CMS locale is determined by the globalsettings.
account. After changing this Security Setting to "Classic - local users are authenticated as themselves", HPSUM was able to successfully connect to the target system and deploy the OpenSSH Package. Partition Manager Releases of Partition Manager before HP-UX 11i v2 May 2005 and HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005 do not work with HP SIM 5.x. You must upgrade to one of either the HP-UX 11i v2 May 2005 or the HP-UX 11i v1 September 2005 versions of Partition Manager.
1. At a command prompt, enter: /sysmgmt.bin --keep --confirm (type "n" for mxbundle.server.install) 2. 3. 4. Install Postgresql 7.4.7-2. Install HP SIM. ------------------------------------------------------------The Property pages for the VMWare ESX 3.5 operating system are not available due to limitations in the WBEM agents Reporting Reports with one or more IP address or host name exported from HP SIM in XML format cannot be imported into HP SIM. To create a report in XML format on specific systems, a collection of these systems must be created and then this collection can be used to create a report.
have applied Internet Explorer patch Q313675 or any patch that supersedes or includes that patch, such as Q316059 and Q319182. Therefore, do not use underscores in any system name for systems being managed by HP SIM. ------------------------------------------------------------If you receive the Warning HTTPS Hostname Mismatch when accessing HP SIM and you click No, you will continue to receive the error until you click Yes. You will then be taken to the Sign in page.
------------------------------------------------------------If you do not include the VCRM during the installation of HP SIM, you will receive an error message when running the Install Software and Firmware task. If this happens, install the VCRM, and select Options→Version Control Repository to set this software as your default. Secure Shell The command mxagentconfig does not work properly for a domain user Verify that the home directory of the user is not of the form C:\documents and settings\username .
------------------------------------------------------------On an HP-UX system, when an administrative rights user edits a task, changes the owner to an operator rights user, and then views the task, the original owner is still shown as the owner. If you open another browser and view the task, the correct owner is displayed. This error is sporadic.
If you have disabled ping status in HP SIM 4.x, it is still disabled in HP SIM 5.x and you cannot enable it again. You must delete the task and create a new task if you want to change it. Tool The message /tmp/Acmd42947.bat[26]: /usr/dt/bin/dtterm: not found might appear when running the following tools on HP-UX 11.31: • Retrieve Bastille Configuration file • Deploy Bastille Configuration • Consolidated Logging Wizard • Configuration Synchronization Wizard To eliminate this problem: 1. 2.

When you uninstall HP SIM from a system running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 SP3, errors indicating failure to remove files are shown on the console. You must remove the /var/opt/mx folder manually. You can verify that HP SIM has been removed by running the command rpm -qa | grep hpsim .
. ------------------------------------------------------------If you want to upgrade from PostgreSQL 7.x (Rhel 3 or 4) to PostgreSQL 8.x (Rhel 5). When you upgrade from 7.x to 8.x, the PostgreSQL service will fail to start because the internal data storage format changes with new releases of PostgreSQL (8.x). Therefore, if you are upgrading an existing installation that does not have a version number 8.1.x, you must back up and restore your data as shown here.
13. Now login with PostgreSQL account to perform database operations: su postgres 14. Change the working directory to /usr/bin: cd /usr/bin 15. The below command is not required, since there is a new version PostgreSQL. However, HP recommends you execute the command and be sure insight_v1_0 is not present: /dropdb -p 5432 -h 127.0.0.1 -i -e insight_v1_0 Press Y to confirm the delete of old database. 16. Create a user mxadmin and assign super user role: ./createuser -h 127.0.0.

Start the HP SIM service. HP-UX and Linux: Stop the HP SIM service. Remove the ojdbc14.jar file from the /opt/mx/lib and /opt/mx/jboss/server/hpsim/lib directories. Download the new driver, version 10.1.0.2.0 or newer from the Oracle website. Copy the JDBC driver file, ojdbc14.
If you use the install script with the —install option, ./installvm791.sh –install, you must accept the default values for the following questions. • To access the SMH, the port for HP SIM service (2381) should be enabled in the firewall. Do you want to enable this port? (default is y) • For the Insight Manager agents to communicate properly with HP SIM, the snmpd service should be enabled in the firewall.
------------------------------------------------------------When trying to discover a WBEM protocol supported system (target), you must have a root user credential entered in the Global Protocol Settings page in HP SIM of the target system before discovery is started. Otherwise, WBEM subscriptions fail, WBEM identification does not collect proper information from the target system, and WBEM status icon updates are not set properly because the data has not been discovered and collected successfully.
