README - HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3

If you use the install script with the
—install
option, ./installvm791.sh install, you must accept
the default values for the following questions.
To access the SMH, the port for HP SIM service (2381) should be enabled in the firewall.
Do you want to enable this port? <y/n> (default is y)
For the Insight Manager agents to communicate properly with HP SIM, the snmpd service should be
enabled in the firewall.
Do you want to enable the snmpd service? (y/n) (default is y)
To add the HP SIM certificate in System Management Homepage, the port [280] should be enabled
in the firewall.
Do you want to enable this port? (y/n) (default is y)
Do you wish to use an existing snmpd.confsnmpd.conf? (y/n) (Blank is n)
This configuration script will add user hpsmh and group hpsmh to integrate with HP SIM and the SMH
The default selection is to enable hpsmh support.
Do you want to disable hpsmy support? (y/n) (Blank is n)
VMware
The name of the temperature sensors might be incorrect. This is a known issue in the VMWare provider and
will be addressed in a future release of VMWare providers.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Persistent subscription save on VMware has one hour time-window. The subscription is not saved if the ESX
3i server is rebooted within one hour of creating the subscription.
Subscriptions do not persist across
ungraceful
shutdown or reboot. An orderly shutdown or reboot must take
place for subscriptions to persist. Reboot with F11 rather than command line shutdown or reboot commands.
WBEM
When running HP SIM in an environment that contains a large number of WBEM managed systems, the
completed job output might exceed several thousand files. This can result in HP SIM consuming large amounts
of memory, task page interface slowdown, or out of memory errors.
If this behavior is noted, the following workaround can be implemented to alleviate the consumption of
memory and disk space. The workaround adjusts the retention values for completed tasks and can be altered
as desired to reduce resource consumption.
NOTE: This fix only applies to HP SIM instances which are managing a large number of WBEM nodes
(maximum 5000) using WMI.
Add the following script to the MX.PROPERTIES file located in the Microsoft Windows directory \Program
Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\config or in the Linux and HP-UX directory
/etc/opt/mx/config:
MX_JOB_MAX_COMPLETED_JOBS_PER_TASK=3 Recommended value is 3 for greater than 1500 systems
MX_JOB_MAX_COMPLETED_JOB_AGE=7 Recommended value is 7 for greater than 1500 systems
MX_JOB_KEEP_RUN_NOW_HOURS=8 Recommended value is 8 for greater than 1500 systems
After the MX.PROPERTIES file has been modified, restart the HP SIM service to initiate the changes.
-------------------------------------------------------------
In HP SIM 5.3, the new WS-Management protocol is used to identify and access ProLiant iLO 2 management
processors that have firmware revision 1.30 or higher. WBEM credentials are used with WS-Management
as well as with WBEM, so to properly identify an iLO with WS-Management you must first add either a
default WBEM credential or a system-specific WBEM credential with the WS-Management user name and
password. WS-Management is accessed through port 443 by default, but other ports can be configured by
editing the wsmanportlist.xml file in the config/identification directory.
