Centralizing event
notifications
HP SIM can receive events by using SNMP or WBEM.
SNMP
1. In HP CV EVA, configure the following under System Options:
SNMP event notification: Select all events or specified events to be notified, and save the
changes.
SNMP host notification: Add the IP address of the HP SIM server, and save the changes.
2. Ensure that SNMP services are running on both the HP SIM and HP CV EVA servers. You can
use Windows Service Manager to check for SNMP services that include SNMP Service and
SNMP Trap Service. If you do not find these two components in Windows Service Manager, go
to Windows Control PanelAdd or Remove Programs, and click Add/Remove Windows
Components. In the Windows Component Wizard that appears, select Management and
Monitoring Tools and install it. If HP SIM and HP CV EVA reside on a single server, check for
SNMP services only on that server.
3. In Command View, go to System OptionsConfigure SNMP/event log notificationConfigure
events for SNMP/event log notification. Click Get MIB to download and save the MIB files for
the required EVA types. The MIB file is saved with a .mib.idi extension. Remove the .idi
extension, and then save the file with only the .mib extension. See Figure 5.

4. Copy the saved MIB file to the following location on the HP SIM server:
C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\mibs\
