1 Product Release Information for Updates to HP SIM 5.3 with Update 1 HP SIM 5.3.1.0 • New hardware support You can monitor and manage the leading HP G6 servers, including HP ProLiant BL280c G6, BL460c G6, BL490c G6, and BL685c G6 Server Blades. • Enhanced providers support providers. • Extended functionality Support for HP Insight Management WBEM Providers 2.3 and Linux Pre-enabled support for SLES11 and RHEL5 U3. HP SIM 5.3.1.
2 Known Issues and Workarounds Authentication On a Linux or ESX system, you might receive the following error when running the mxagentconfig command or through Replicate Agent Settings: Configuration failed to complete due to the following exception: Could not access the file or directory sshd_config.orig on the target system esxhost1. Remote system reported following error message: Permission denied.
The HP SIM portal relies on the CMS to respond quickly to all requests. • If the CMS is slow to respond to one request, browser performance may fall significantly during that time. • If the CMS is slow to respond to two requests, the browser appears to lock up completely during subsequent interaction; the browser does not send additional requests until there are fewer than two outstanding requests.
------------------------------------------------------------If you receive a Page Not Found browser error when launching PMP tools from within HP SIM, the CMS name link might not have resolved correctly on the network. Note the name being used in the browser window, and verify that the name resolves on the network and that it is not being affected by any proxy settings in the browser.
3. 4. • Add the DNS suffix for the CMS to the Exceptions list. Click OK until all dialog boxes are closed. The company DNS servers could be having problems. network support group. HP recommends that you contact your company's ------------------------------------------------------------Use careful planning if you want to deploy new drivers, firmware agents, or other software to the local CMS because you might receive unexpected results, such as a mandatory reboot of the CMS.
Configure or Repair Agent task HP-UX 11.31 does not ship with smbclient, therefore, any Configure or Repair Agents task from an HP-UX 11.31 CMS to a Windows target fails until smbclient is installed on the CMS. A back up smbclient is located under /opt/mx/bin/smbclient. Copy this to the opt/samba/bin/smbclient folder to execute the Configure or Repair Agents task.
Credentials When a discovery credential is used to successfully communicate with a system, a credential reference is created for that system. If the credential is later changed on that same discovery task, the credential that is used on all systems referencing it changes. This enables credentials to be changed in one place (usually passwords for an account) and immediately be available for use in HP SIM. The same is true for global credentials.
you might want to stop or delete the task, and wait 5 to 10 minutes after the cancellation has completed before running another data collection task. If the data collection task is allowed to run to full completion without canceling, another data collection task cannot be run for at least 15 minutes or the task will fail because it is skipped (this would be shown in the STDOUT of the task instance).
------------------------------------------------------------When using MSDE (or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition), Microsoft SQL, or Oracle database server located on a remote Windows XP SP2 server, the firewall settings on the remote server must be turned off. To do this: 1. 2. Select Start→Control Panel→Windows Firewall. Select Off.
------------------------------------------------------------If an HP Logical Server that is created in Insight Dynamics - VSE is given the same name as the operating system host name of the blade on which it is applied, then the logical server is deleted when the blade is rediscovered. To avoid this, be sure the logical server name is different from the host name of the blade.
want HP SIM to display the same name as the host name of the full DNS name, you must use the vmmodify command to modify it. ------------------------------------------------------------If the partition has a vPar already created and been discovered by HP SIM but the IP address used by the vPar has been moved to a stand-alone server, HP SIM will not delete the vParMon association to the complex or the management processor; the reason is the partition still has vPar defined within the partition.
Linux servers When a Linux server is discovered as an unmanaged system: 1. Be sure to make the changes similar to the following in the /etc/hosts file on the discovered system before installing agents: #Do not remove the following line, or various programs #that require network functionality will fail. 127.0.0.1 localhost 172.24.30.34 HPSIM.wbemqa.com HPSIM NOTE: Replace the IP address, host name, and alias previously listed with your localhost IP address, DNS name, and host name. 2. 3. Install agents.
------------------------------------------------------------To enable non administrative users to delete or clear events, you can create a toolbox with the Clear Events and Delete Events tools. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Select Options→Security→Users and Authorizations. Click the Toolboxes tab and click New In the Name field, enter a name for the new toolbox. In the Description field, enter a description for the new toolbox. Select Toolbox is enabled.
enclosures are displayed as c7000 enclosure models. As a result, when c7000 and c3000 enclosures are daisy chained, and the OA is discovered, the c3000 Tower Model enclosure is displayed as a c7000 enclosure. To ensure that the daisy chained enclosures are displayed accurately, you must discover the OA on each of these enclosures.
When the iLO 2 credentials are removed from the Insight Power Manager options page, Insight Power Manager continues to successfully collect history data from servers. The iLO 2 credentials on the Insight Power Manager options page are default credentials. After good credentials are found, they are associated with the system and the defaults are no longer used.
When you uninstall HP Serviceguard Manager 4.0 after it has been integrated with HP SIM, you receive an HTTP 404 error.
HP-UX Performance To implement manual performance improvement on an HP-UX system, configure HP SIM to run with additional Java heap space configured on an HP-UX system: 1. 2. Stop the HP SIM service by running the mxstop command. Expand the heap size in native applications of HP-UX 11.0 and 11.11 (11i v1) PA-RISC: HP-UX 11.11 (11i v1) PA-RISC Install Required Patch (and dependent patches: PHCO_30544.
This system doesn´t have a server CIMOM installed locally, or cannot connect to it using all credentials specified Running WBEM rules based identification. Cannot get ComputerSystem WBEM/WMI data from the system Running VM Identification The system is not a VMware ESX Host, or WBEM credentials may not be specified, skipping VM Identification Running WS-Man identification. The system did not respond to WS-Management, verify credentials. Checking for SNMP support on system.
Running node communication diagnosis System identification done with this system. Workaround Go to http://communities.vmware.com/message/914939#914939. Note that the fix above references 3_files in the install queue. However, the number might vary by installation. ------------------------------------------------------------I am unable to identify Windows XP targets through WBEM if 'Simple File Sharing' is enabled.
4. 5. Specify how to save data by selecting either: • Overwrite existing data set (for detailed analysis.) • Append new data set (for historical trend analysis.) Provides a network snapshot at a certain time Provides trend and usage analysis Click Run Now. ------------------------------------------------------------Systems with a dual-port Emulex 1050C HBA card appear in HP SIM as two single-port HBAs.
Insight Control Data Center Edition During the installation of Insight Control Data Center Edition, a MS-DOS prompt might appear. This prompt is a normal part of the installation process and only appears briefly. Do not manually close this window. Installation The HP SIM installation might hang at the database initialization step for a long period of time on Windows Server 2008. However, the installation might have been completed in the background. Verify by browsing to the HP SIM UI.
During installation, the user is given the option to browse to or type in the Destination location folder where HP SIM will be installed. The folder name supports only the following characters: A-z, 0-9, a space, ( -) hyphen, ( _ ) underscore and ( . ) period. ------------------------------------------------------------If Oracle database is being used, the Oracle database and user account must be created beforehand. The user account should have database administrator (DBA) privileges.
Enabled = Guest only - Local users authenticate as Guest Disabled = Classic - Local users authenticate as themselves This configuration can be seen in the Local Security Policy Editor under (Start→Control Panel→Administrative Tools→Local Security Policy. Select Security Settings→Local Policies→Security Options→Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts. This change is necessary for the database install.
HP SIM running on a Linux system might not receive HTTP Events from the HP Version Control Agent performing an Install Software and Firmware task. Therefore, the task status remains at 0% for an extended period and shows In Progress on the Task Results page. Set up the Hosts file on the target system running the VCA to include the name and IP address of the Linux CMS system. Edit the windows dir\System32\Drivers\Etc\hosts file by adding the following lines: HP SIM system name HP SIM system IP address .
Manage Environment When you set the Ignite server on the Managed Environment page and then access the page again, you cannot change and save the address again. To bypass this problem, modify the Ignite tools from the CLI using the tools' original TDefs, as follows: 1. 2. From the CLI, go to the Tools directory under the HP SIM install on Windows and under /var/opt/mx/tools on Linux and HP-UX. Run mxtool -mf -x force' where for each TDef is as follows: iux_tools.xml swm-msa-tools.
------------------------------------------------------------A user created with the user template or operator template might not be able to see menus related to PMP, or might be required to sign in (single login does not work) after accessing the menus. Perform the following to give the user template-based user authorization on the CMS: 1. 2. 3. Sign in as an administrator to HP SIM. Select Options→Security→Users and Authorizations, and then select the Authorizations tab.
------------------------------------------------------------Postgresql does not recognize time zone WAT0 - Northwest Africa, Morocco, Mauritania, Mali. ------------------------------------------------------------Database creation under SuSE 10 PostgreSQL reports warning messages at various stages as the database is created. A warning message states that the view which provides license reporting has caused an exception and has not been inserted.
------------------------------------------------------------After copying a report from an existing report that contains both system targets and an event filter, only the event filter is displayed on the Manage Reports page. However, this is only a display problem. You can select the newly copied report and generate the report correctly for the selected system targets with the event filter. Then, the selected targets in that generated report displays a combination collection instead of the system targets.
Windows 2003 must be modified to properly discover the system. See the Windows documentation on how to install the SNMP service. ------------------------------------------------------------How should SNMP be configured? The SNMP service must have the security settings changed to enable SNMP communications with other systems. The same community string used by HP SIM should be added to and at least the address of the system on which HP SIM is installed should be listed in the list of allowed IP addresses.
If you have a problem running your tools on the CMS because of SSH authentication errors, then run mxagentconfig -a -n node address of the CMS -u Administrator, or from the GUI, run Configure→Configure or Repair Agents, and then select the CMS as the target. Software status polling Running the Software Status Polling task does not update to the correct status in HP SIM systems list page. Reidentifying or rediscovering does not change the status.
On an HP-UX system, when an administrative rights user edits a task, changes the owner to an operator rights user, and then views the task, the original owner is still shown as the owner. If you open another browser and view the task, the correct owner is displayed. This error is sporadic. ------------------------------------------------------------To successfully execute the Initial ProLiant Support Pack Install task, reboot the system after Installing HP SIM.
Tool The message /tmp/Acmd42947.bat[26]: /usr/dt/bin/dtterm: not found might appear when running the following tools on HP-UX 11.31: • Retrieve Bastille Configuration file • Deploy Bastille Configuration • Consolidated Logging Wizard • Configuration Synchronization Wizard To eliminate this problem: 1. 2. Remove the above tools using the CLI command mxtool -r -t . Edit the tool definition XML files, replacing instances of dtterm and hpterm with xterm.
4. On the system on which you are attempting to run tools, verify the permissions of some directories. The home directory should have the drwxr-xr-x (755) permissions: The .ssh directory within the home drwxr-xr-x (755) directory should have the permissions: The authorized_keys2 file in the -rw-r--r-- or -rwxr-xr-x (644 or 755) .ssh directory should have the permissions: a. a.
A limited rights user cannot see or select some of Custom Tool tools that were assigned to them when using a Mozilla browser. There is a limitation of the number of tools that can be displayed with a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. Typically, the screen is limited to 25 to 35 tools, depending on font sizes and so on. ------------------------------------------------------------When launching an HP SIM tool in an external window, you might not have the same user privileges that you had in HP SIM.
$ /usr/sbin/waconf -a on 2. Configure the search order for services if needed. This step is dependent on the networking configuration in your environment. Now login with PostgreSQL account to perform database operations: su postgres 14. Change the working directory to /usr/bin: cd /usr/bin 15. The below command is not required, since there is a new version PostgreSQL. However, HP recommends you execute the command and be sure insight_v1_0 is not present: /dropdb -p 5432 -h 127.0.0.
For additional information. If you have an older version of the JDBC driver already installed, complete the following: For Windows: 1. Stop the HP SIM service. 2. Remove the ojdbc14.jar file from the install dir/lib and install dir/jboss/server/hpsim/lib directories. 3. Download the new driver from the Oracle website. 4. Copy the JDBC driver file, ojdbc14.jar, to the install dir/lib and install dir/jboss/server/hpsim/lib directories. 5. Start the HP SIM service. For HP-UX and Linux: 1.
This creates two new directories (/hpmgmt/791) under your current directory. Navigate to the new ./hpmgmt/791 directory and view the README file for installation instructions. If you use the install script with the —install option, ./installvm791.sh –install, you must accept the default values for the following questions. • To access the SMH, the port for HP SIM service (2381) should be enabled in the firewall.
password. WS-Management is accessed through port 443 by default, but other ports can be configured by editing the wsmanportlist.xml file in the config/identification directory. ------------------------------------------------------------When trying to discover a WBEM protocol supported system (target), you must have a root user credential entered in the Global Protocol Settings page in HP SIM of the target system before discovery is started.
WMI Mapper If you have created subscriptions on a Windows managed system and then elects to change the WMI Mapper proxy or install a WMI Mapper on the managed system, you must first unsubscribe for WBEM events, change the proxy, re-identify the systems, and then resubscribe for WBEM events. If you do not unsubscribe for the WBEM events, HP SIM will no longer receive indications from the managed system.
