Uninstall
Using
rpm -e
to uninstall HP SIM on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 SP3 shows errors though uninstall is successful. When
you uninstall HP SIM from a system running SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 SP3, errors indicating failure to
remove files are shown on the console. You must remove the /var/opt/mx folder manually. You can verify
that HP SIM has been removed by running the command
rpm -qa | grep hpsim
.
If you are using rpm -e to uninstall HP SIM on SuSE Linux Enterprise Edition Server 9, the errors are not
displayed on the console, but you must still remove the /var/opt/mx folder manually.
Upgrade
Upgrading HP SIM from versions that use MSDE to 5.3 Update1 might fail during the database upgrade
phase with error code 29552. This error occurs due to a known SQL Server issue. Workaround to fix the
issue is available at the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/products/ee/
transform.aspx?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.06&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=SQLSetup90&EvtType=29552.
After you have completed manually upgrading the MSDE instance that has the HP SIM database to SQL
Express 2005 SP2, reinitiate the HP SIM installer.
-------------------------------------------------------------
If you are upgrading to HPSIM 5.3 on Windows 2008 64-bit, first verify that OpenSSH 3.7.1 is not stuck
in a
starting
state. If it is, select End Process for the cygrunsrv.exe process and any sshd.exe processes
using the Windows Task Manager.
-------------------------------------------------------------
If HP SIM is installed on a Windows XP system with MSDE as the database, you must manually upgrade
MSDE to SQL Server 2005 to upgrade the Windows XP system to Windows Vista.
-------------------------------------------------------------
If you upgrade to Windows Vista on an HP SIM server running Windows XP, you might no longer be able
to browse into HP SIM. HP recommends turning off the Windows Vista User Account Control features, and
you might/ need to change the privileges of the SIMinstalldir\config directory to get HP SIM running
again.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Internet Explorer page pops up a window stating that you must add the address of the database. Click
Close. Upgrade continues without failure.
-------------------------------------------------------------
When an operating environment upgrade is done from SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 Service Pack 3 to
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 1, the HP SIM service fails to come up after the machine is
rebooted. Use the following steps to solve this problem:
1. Stop the HP SIM service:
mxstop
Verify that the HP SIM service has stopped:
ps -ef|grep mx
2. If the hpsmdb service is running, stop the hpsmdb service:
/etc/init.d/hpsmdb stop
