Using traditional OS-based management software
Traditionally, OS-based management required software to run on the OS. The software plugs into the
appropriate service providing SNMP, WMI, or WBEM capabilities in the OS. The software collects
server-specific, OS-specific, and industry-standard data. The service bundles the data and makes it
available to either the System Management Homepage or a remote management application, such as
HP SIM. Figure 2 provides an overview of the traditional OS-based management model.

OS-based service.
