FAQs
Question #1__________________________________________________________________________________________
Q. Can I use a hardware device (USB pen or printer, for example) that is attached to my log-on machine (terminal machine)
inside a VDI session?
A. Typically, the built-in RDP protocol can provide basic re-direction of devices. Connection brokers like Provision Networks
have more advanced USB device/printer re-direction. However, devices like PDAs (Palm, Blackberry, iPaq) typically cannot
be re-directed; there are third-party solutions that can help address such limitations.
For more information about device re-direction, see “Additional Resources” below.
Question #2__________________________________________________________________________________________
Q. Can the IP address assignment for the VDI machine be dynamic or does it have to be static?
A.
The IP addresses can be whatever the customer wants to support. One benefit of a connection broker is that it eliminates the
requirement that end users know either the static IP address or the VM’s host name in order to access their desktops. Thus, in
a brokered environment, all users point toward a single device that will connect them to a resource at login time. Those
resources can have dynamically assigned addresses without the end users or administrators needing to have any knowledge
of the specifics.
