HP Systems Insight Manager 5.3 Technical Reference Guide

The type of data collected depends on what filters are selected, or what WBEM providers are installed.
Snapshot comparisons HP SIM enables you to compare configuration snapshots of up to four different
servers, or compare configuration snapshots of a single server over a period of time. You can use
snapshot comparisons to save a picture of a standard configuration for comparisons to other systems.
Partner applications
HP Version Control HP SIM downloads the latest BIOS, driver, and agent updates for HP ProLiant
and HP Integrity servers running Windows and Linux, identifies systems running outdated system software,
and enables system software updates across groups of servers. For HP-UX systems, Software Distributor
is integrated into HP SIM.
HP Insight Remote Support Pack HP SIM includes a new version of the HP Insight Remote Support
Pack (RSP) plug-in. This capability deploys with your Windows-based CMS and includes the following
functionality for a wide range of servers, storage, network, and selected multivendor devices:
Remote event monitoring to supplement the local monitoring of HP SIM
Real-time hardware event monitoring and secure event submission to HP Support to help identify
and prevent potentially critical hardware problems
Faster restoration of your supported systems and devices to operational status
Less disruption to your company’s revenue-generating activities and business productivity
The HP SIM single view of your data center is enhanced, with the addition of the following
serviceability attributes:
Contract and warranty details for your systems
Service event view, including remote support details such as HP case ID and service case
status
Detailed problem resolution information including access to self-repair videos
Full support of delivery requirements for HP Mission Critical and Proactive Services contracts
Optional integration with HP Operations Manager
Web-Based Enterprise Services and Open Service Event Manager For those customers, who do not
allow outbound Internet communication as part of their security policy, some of the event analysis
functionality of the HP Insight Remote Support Pack can be used as standalone components. WEBES
SEA and OSEM generate service notifications to HP SIM through a specific SNMP trap type if analysis
determines there are serviceable events. However, if the Remote Support Pack is installed, the service
notification provided by WEBES and OSEM automatically submit an incident to HP and returns an HP
case ID and status.
HP System Management Homepage The HP System Management Homepage provides a consolidated
interface for single-system management. By aggregating the data from HP web-based agents and
management utilities, the HP System Management Homepage provides a common, easy-to-use interface
that displays hardware fault and status monitoring, performance data, system thresholds, diagnostics,
and software version control for an individual server.
HP Performance Management Pack HP SIM provides a software solution that detects, analyzes, and
explains hardware bottlenecks on HP ProLiant servers and HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array
shared storage. HP Performance Management Pack (PMP) provides the tools needed to receive proactive
notification of impending bottleneck conditions and debug existing performance issues. With PMP,
users can monitor on one or more servers. The performance information is analyzed to determine if
there is an impending or existing performance bottleneck issue. This information can be interactively
displayed or logged to a database for later analysis or reporting, and set up proactive notification
using the HP SIM notification mechanism. The PMP tools that are available in HP SIM include:
