HP Systems Insight Manager 7.0 Installation and Configuration Guide for Microsoft Windows

1 Installation overview and requirements
This chapter provides an overview of the HP Systems Insight Manager installation process, and it
identifies the system requirements for a Windows CMS, a managed system, and a network client.
First time install process overview
Perform these steps for a first time install of HP Systems Insight Manager on your CMS:
1. Install and configure the Central Management Server. See “Installing HP Systems Insight
Manager on the CMS for the first time” (page 25) for more details.
2. Configure HP Systems Insight Manager for your environment. For the recommended tasks,
see “Configuring HP Systems Insight Manager using the First Time Wizard” (page 38) or
“Configuring Systems Insight Manager using the Options menu” (page 40).
3. Install and configure the required Insight Management Agent on the systems that will be
managed by the Central Management Server. This step is covered in the first section of “Setting
up and configuring managed systems” (page 42).
4. Configure the remaining protocols for the managed systems. For details, see “Setting up and
configuring managed systems” (page 42).

Upgrade overview
If HP SIM is installed on your Central Management Server, see the upgrade instructions in
“Upgrading HP Systems Insight Manager” (page 47).
Pre-requisites
To successfully install and configure HP Systems Insight Manager on windows, install the following
on the CMS:

.Net framework 3.5 sp1
System requirements
Support for Adobe Flash player
HP recommends that the version of Adobe Flash player must atleast be 10.3.183.11. This is a
patched version of Adobe Flash player 10. Use the link http://www.adobe.com/support/security/
bulletins/apsb11-28.html to download the latest patched version.
