Install the HP MPA software
Follow these steps to install the HP MPA software.
NOTE: HP MPA can only be installed on 32-bit Windows operating systems.
IIS Internet Information Services and Java Runtime Environment must be installed prior to installing HP MPA.
If you are upgrading from a previous version of MPA, always back up the database before upgrading MPA.
1. The HP MPA is part of the HP Printer Administrators Resource Kit (HP PARK). To download the HP PARK,
go to
www.hp.com/go/upd and click Download software. Click a print driver, verify your language, and
then click your operating system. From the table that lists the HP Printer Administrators Resource Kit,
click Download.
2. Extract the contents of the HP PARK zip file to your hard drive.
3. Locate the folder where you extracted the HP PARK zip file.
4. Browse to the Managed Printing Administration installation folder and double-click
HPMPAInstall.msi.
NOTE: Starting in HP MPA v2.7.0, this will be an executable instead of an "msi" file.
5. The HP Managed Printing Admin Setup Wizard opens. Click Next.
6. The Confirm Installation window opens. Click Next.
7. The Installing HP Managed Printing Admin window opens. A progress bar indicates the progression of
the install. Wait until the next window opens.
8. The Installation Complete window opens. Click Close.
When the installation completes, the browser opens with selections for accessing HP MPA.
NOTE: On the server, MPA requires Remote Desktop settings to Allow connections from computers
running Remote Desktop.
On servers with Windows 7 or later Windows operating systems, MPA requires the firewall Inbound Rule for
“World Wide Web Services (HTTP Traffic-In)” to be enabled. To enable this firewall setting, in the Windows
Firewall click Advanced Settings, click Inbound Rules in the left column, and then scroll down to World Wide
Web Services (HTTP Traffic-In). Right click on this setting, and then click Enable Rule.
Back up the HP MPA software
HP MPA stores information about users, groups, policy, and printer lists in a Microsoft Access database file.
HP recommends periodic back ups of this database in case the database becomes corrupted. Back up the
database before performing an upgrade.
