Enterprise Volume Manager (Multi-OS) Host Agent Version 2.0D for HP-UX Release Notes

Limitations and Known Issues
9Release Notes – Enterprise Volume Manager (Multi-OS) Host Agent Version 2.0D
for HP-UX
Unit Style Replication Not Supported with Volume Groups
Many EVM job operations provide a choice between two syntax styles:
Unit syntax—replication sources are specified in terms of the applicable storage
system and unit number. This method does not provide any mechanism for
quiescing a volume group or gathering the meta data necessary to reconstruct the
volume group on the mount-on host.
Unit style replication is suitable only for non-LVM devices.
Volume syntax—replication sources are specified in terms of the host on which
they reside and the logical volume name. This method allows EVM to quiesce the
volume group being replicated and reconstructs the volume group on the
mount-on host.
BCV Persistence Across Host Reboots
Persisting a device across a HP-UX host reboot requires the operating system kernel to
be rebuilt. Due to the potentially disruptive nature of this operation, EVM does not
rebuild the kernel. As a result, a Business Continuance Volume (BCV) mounted by
EVM does not persist across a host reboot.
Mounting Multiple Logical Volumes per Volume Group
An EVM job automatically mounts only the logical volume specified during job
creation. A limitation in the EVM job creation interface prevents more than one
logical volume from being specified. In many cases, mounting more than one logical
volume per volume group is desirable. In these cases, HP recommends adding a
LAUNCH operation in the EVM job immediately following the MOUNT operation.
Use the LAUNCH operation to execute a simple shell script on the mount-on host to
mount any additional logical volumes as desired.
International Language Support
To use EVM host agents with UNIX operating systems in non-English environments,
set “LANG=C; export LANG” in the root profile.
