Managing Superdome Complexes: A Guide for HP-UX System Administrators

Chapter 4 113
4 Configuring and Managing
Superdome Partitions
This chapter describes the tools, procedures, and guidelines for
configuring and managing Superdome partitions.
On an HPSuperdome system, each partition is a “logicalserver.” One or
more cells (processors and memory), and I/O chassis (I/O cards and
devices) are assigned to the partition for its exclusive use.
Each partition runs a single instance of HP-UX and can boot, reboot, and
operate independently of other partitions and hardware within the
Superdome complex.
The Superdome complex includes all hardware within a Superdome
system: all cabinets, cells, I/O chassis, I/O devices and racks, utilities and
interconnecting hardware, power supplies, and fans.
You can configure one or more partitions within a Superdome complex,
allowing the hardware to function as a single HP-UX server or as many
servers.
