Managing Superdome Complexes: A Guide for HP-UX System Administrators

Configuring and Managing Superdome Partitions
Procedures for Managing Partitions
Chapter 4206
Consolidating Multiple Partitions
Consolidating multiple partitions involves (1) removing a partition, thus
making all the partition’s cell available to beassigned to other partitions,
and (2) assigning those cells to another partition.
This general process effectively removes one or more virtual systems
(partitions) and allocates those resources to another partition within the
same Superdome complex.
Procedure Use the following high-level procedure when consolidating partitions.
Step 1. Determine the overall partition configuration you wish to establish for
the Superdome complex.
To accomplish this planning refer to “Configuring Superdome
Hardware and Partitions” on page 122 and Appendix A, “Planning
Superdome Configurations,” on page 283 for basic guidance.
Also refer to your HP sales or support representative to ensure that the
new Superdome complex configuration establishes an HP-recommended
partition configuration.
Step 2. Remove the partitions whose cells (and associated I/O chassis) will be
consolidated into another partition.
See “Deleting (Removing) a Partition” on page 170 for details on this
task.
Step 3. Assign the cells that you made available in the previous step to a
partition, either by creating a new partition or by adding them to an
existing partition.
To create a new partition using the newly available resources use the
procedure listed in “Creating a New Partition” on page 161.
To add the resources to an existing partition refer to “Adding Cells to a
Partition” on page 178.
NOTE You must configure all I/O devices within the newly created partition for
HP-UX to make the devices available.
