Overview of Partition Booting Concepts
and Issues
This section covers the issues, options, and features related to booting
HP Superdome partitions. Also covered are the requirements for booting
and an overview of the cell and partition boot process.
Details are in the following sections.

“Superdome Booting Features” on page 227
“Partition and Cell Boot States and Activities” on page 229

Reboot and Reset Options for Superdome Partitions
Two new types of reboot and reset are provided for reconfiguring
Superdome server partitions. These two reset methods allow you to
perform a reboot-for-reconfig for a partition, and allow you to put a
partition into a ready-for-reconfig state.
In order to modify a partition, you perform a reboot-for-reconfiguration to
add or remove cells from the partition. The shutdown -R and reboot -R
commands support this new rebooting procedure.
You also can put a partition into a reconfig-reset state, which makes the
partition and all cells assigned to it inactive. When at reconfig-reset, all
the partition’s cells are at boot-is-blocked and do not proceed with
partition rendezvous. This also allows you to add or remove cells from
the partition from a different, remote partition within the Superdome
complex.
To reboot a partition into the reconfig-reset state, use the
shutdown -R -H or reboot -R -H command, the BCH interface’s
RECONFIGRESET command, or the GSP command menu’s RR command.
