Types of
Superdome
Booting
The following list summarizes all types of booting, rebooting, and
resetting that are supported for HP Superdome partitions.
Reboot—Shuts down HP-UX and reboots the partition.
Only the partition’s active cells are rebooted.
You can reboot the partition using either of the following HP-UX
commands: shutdown -r or reboot -r.
Halt—Shuts down HP-UX, halts all processing on the partition, and
does not reboot.
To perform this task, use either of the following HP-UX commands:
shutdown -h or reboot -h. To reboot a halted partition, use the GSP
command menu’s RS command.
Reset—Resets the partition.
Only the partition’s active cells are reset.
You can reset the partition using the BCH interface’s RESET command
or the GSP command menu’s RS command.
Boot—Boots a partition past the ready-for-reconfig state: proceeds
past boot-is-blocked (BIB) and performs partition cell rendezvous.
You can perform this task using the GSP command menu’s BO
command.
Reboot-for-Reconfig—Shuts down HP-UX (if using shutdown or
reboot) and reboots the partition so that any partition
reconfigurations take place.
All cells—including any inactive cells and all newly added or deleted
cells—reboot and are reconfigured, and all cells with a “y”
use-on-next-boot setting participate in partition rendezvous and
synchronize to boot as a single partition.
This is the method of initiating a partition reconfiguration following
any partition modifications using the parmodify command or
Partition Manager.
You can perform a reboot-for-reconfig using either of the following
HP-UX commands: shutdown -R or reboot -R.
