Common Problems
This section contains information about the following common HP-UX Mobile IPv4
problems:
“Daemon Will Not Run” on page 96
“Mobile Node Registration and De-registration Problems” on page 98
“Routing Problems - Deleted Mobile IPv4 Routes” on page 107
Daemon Will Not Run
The mipd or miprod daemon will not start (the mipadmin -start command returns an
error) or the mipadmin -status command returns the following error:
mipadmin: No Mobile IP daemon was found running; the ’status’ query does
not apply
Solution
Verify the items in the subsections listed below.
syslog
Check the syslog file (the default file is /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log) for errors when
starting the daemon. Use the mipadmin -logevents command.
Failed to bind ipc_socket The following log message indicates that the daemon did
not start because it could not create the /var/adm/mip/admin_ipc_socket domain
socket it uses to communicate with mipadmin:
Feb 7 12:46:04 hpindwqs mipd[3080]: ALERT: Failed to bind ipc_socket
- No such file or directory
Verify that the /var/adm/mip directory exists. Create this directory if it does not exist.
You can re-install the product to create this directory.
Received DPR message The following log message indicates that the AAA server sent
a Diameter AAA Disconnect Peer Request (DPR), possibly because the AAA server
shutdown.
Feb 6 17:27:03 hpindhqo mipd[28868]: ALERT: AAAReceiveMessage:
Received DPR message
Verify that the AAA server is operating. Re-start the mipd daemon.
Installation
Verify that the product was successfully installed, as described in Chapter 4, “Step 4:
Verify the Installation” on page 36. Verify that the system has the prerequisite patches
installed, as listed in the Release Notes. Verify that the system has the required system
prerequisites, as listed in Chapter 2, “Product Specifications,” on page 15.
Underlying Network
Use the following HP-UX utilities to verify and troubleshoot the underlying network.
