advertisements
The advertisements option queries mipd and displays the contents of the Agent
Advertisements sent by Home and Foreign Agents.
Syntax
-a[dvertisements] [-v]
Parameters
-v Verbose option.
Description
This option applies only to Home or Foreign Agents. The mipadmin utility will display
information about Agent Advertisements for each interface configured for Home or
Foreign Agent services. The output contains the following information:
The ICMP Router Advertisement. Mobile IPv4 Agent Advertisements are a form of
ICMP Router Advertisements. The fields are:
ICMP Packet Type: this is always 9, to indicate a Router Advertisement.
ICMP Code: this can be 0 (this router supports Common Traffic and Mobile IPv4
traffic) or 16 (this router only supports Mobile IPv4 traffic). Some Mobile IPv4
Nodes do not operate properly with Agent Advertisements that use ICMP code 0.
Checksum: checksum for the Router Advertisement.
Number of Routers: the number of router addresses included in the
advertisement. This will be 0 if you did not configure any router addresses. If so,
the Mobile Node may use an advertised Care-of Address or the Foreign Agent’s
address from the source address field of the IP packet as a router address.
Router Address Size: size of the router address entries, in units of 32 bytes.
This value is always 2 for IPv4.
Advertisement Lifetime: the lifetime for the advertisement, in seconds.
ROUTERS: The number of router addresses advertised, followed by a list of router
addresses. Each router address is followed by its preference value. A higher
preference value indicates a higher preference.
For more information on the above fields, refer to RFC 1256, ICMP Router Discovery
Messages.
If you specify the -v option, the output will also contain the following information:
ADVERTISEMENT EXTENSION: The Mobile IPv4 Agent Advertisement. The fields are:
Type: ICMP type code that indicates an Agent Advertisement. This is always 16.
Length: length of the Agent Advertisement, in bytes.
Registration Lifetime: the maximum registration lifetime, in seconds. If a
Mobile Node requests a longer registration lifetime, the Foreign Agent will reject
the request. A Mobile Node may request to re-new its registration before the
registration expires.
Flags: Possible values are:
