Requirements and Restrictions
You can configure an HP-UX system to be the following types of Mobile IPv4 nodes:
Home Agent, a router node that tracks the location of Mobile Nodes as they are
attached to, or visiting Foreign networks.
Foreign Agent, a router node that hosts Mobile Nodes when they are attached to or
visiting Foreign networks.
Correspondent Node with Route Optimization, a system that communicates
with a Mobile Node using Route Optimization.
Basic Functionality Requirements and Restrictions
You must assign Home Agents and Foreign Agents according to the following
requirements and restrictions:
You must have at least one Home Agent in the same subnet (or network, if you are
not using subnets) as the Mobile Nodes.
If you are using Foreign Agent Care-of Addresses, you must have at least one
Foreign Agent in each foreign subnetwork (or network, if you are not using subnets)
that the Mobile Nodes will visit (attach to, when not attached to their home
network).
If you are not using Foreign Agent Care-of Addresses, you do not need Foreign
Agents. The Mobile Nodes must be configured to use Co-located Care of Addresses
and must use a mechanism other than Mobile IPv4 to determine their Care-of
Addresses.
An HP-UX system that is a Home Agent or Foreign Agent (a Mobility Agent) cannot
also be a Correspondent Node with Route Optimization.
The interfaces that provide Home Agent or Foreign Agent services must be ethernet
links.
A Home Agent can serve a maximum 1024 Mobile Nodes. If you are using Route
Optimization, the total number of nodes (Mobile Nodes plus Correspondent Nodes
using Route Optimization) that the Home Agent can serve is 1024.
The maximum number of Mobile IP interfaces supported on a Home or Foreign
Agent is 8.
The maximum number of Care-of Addresses a Foreign Agent can advertise is 8.
The maximum number of Router Addresses a Foreign Agent can advertise is 8.
Non-AAA Mobile Node Requirement
You must configure the same key (shared secret key) on a non-AAA Mobile Node and its
Home Agent.
AAA Functionality Requirements and Restrictions
If you are using AAA, you must also conform to the following requirements and
restrictions:
