Managing Dynamic Home Address Pools
The Mobile IPv4 protocol suite has no provision for a Mobile Node to return a
dynamically allocated home address to the Home Agent. The mipd daemon does not
retain information about dynamic home addresses allocated by previous instances of the
daemon. If you are using dynamic home address allocation, you must manually remove
dynamically allocated addresses from the address pool. Use the following procedure on
the Home Agent to determine which addresses have been allocated and modify the
address range for the dynamic address pool:
1. Before the Mobile Nodes register, set the HP-UX Mobile IPv4 logging level to warn.
Use the following mipadmin command to do this:
mipadmin -loglevel warn
2. After the Mobile Nodes register, use the following mipadmin command to view the
contents of the log file.
mipadmin -logevents
Look for entries similar to the following:
Dec 30 16:58:06 WARN: MN (linux1@home.com) has been allocated home
address 120.120.120.150
3. Remove the allocated addresses from the pool. Open the mipd configuration file and
use the mipconfig -configure pool command to change the address range for the
pool. Save the changes to the configuration file. The mipd daemon will read the
changed configuration file the next time it starts.
