HP Instant Capacity Release Notes for Version 9.x

Additional improvements were made to the error handling on GiCAP database write errors.
Previously, a write error may have resulted in incorrect gain or loss of usage rights within the
group.
Improved GiCAP Logging
GiCAP logging was improved with this release. The GiCAP log file /var/adm/GiCAP.log
includes logging for events such as usage rights transfers, TiCAP transfers, usage rights releases
and compliance events.
Adding non-iCAP systems to a GiCAP Group
In previous releases, iCAP would not authorize the activation of a core on a vPar with an Intended
Active count of zero. This is fixed, and adding a complex with no iCAP components to a group
is now permitted.
Improvements in Usage Rights Transfers
Improvements were made to usage rights transfers in a noncompliant GiCAP group. With this
improvement, users can reclaim loaned usage rights even when the group is noncompliant.
Changes in Asset Reporting
Asset reporting is disabled by default on new installations of Instant Capacity. Asset reporting
will remain at the previous setting for reinstalls and upgrades. Asset reporting can be enabled
with the command icapnotify -a on.
GiCAP member asset reports sent to the HP portal will reflect the correct inventory. In previous
versions, an audit snapshot was not adjusted for GiCAP loan/borrow counts and the reported
inventory for the complex would not always match the portal inventory.
Cell Online Activate and Deactivate
iCAP version 8.02 included support for the cell online activate and deactivate feature introduced
in HP-UX 11i v3, which allows cells to be taken offline and activated online without requiring a
reboot.
Improvements in icapstatus output
Several changes were made to the icapstatus output. These changes included the addition of
a datestamp showing the date and time the command was issued, and a new symbol, # in the
display. Refer to the Instant Capacity User’s Guide for versions 8.x and the icapstatus manpage
for details on the icapstatus output.
Add-On Codeword Fixed
In previous releases, when applying an Add-On codeword to an active partition, the Intended
Active cores for that partition was incorrectly set to the total number of configured cores on active
cells for that partition. This is fixed.
Other Changes
Fixed a problem where an icapmodify -d or an icapmodify -s operation would erroneously
issue an exit code of success even if the operation was only partially satisfied. With this release,
a partially satisfied request will correctly exit with an error code.
Error messages from nPar Provider have been standardized and now include an “NPAR” prefix.
ssh can now be configured with a banner. In previous releases, this would produce errors when
managing a GiCAP group (icapmanage error).
