HP Instant Capacity Version 10.x User Guide (762794-001, March 2014)

8. (HP-UX) Make sure partition commands, such as parstatus, are working. For failures in
virtual partitions, check the vPar commands such as vparstatus.
9. View the iCAP log file and syslog file for any error messages. On HP-UX systems, these files
are /var/adm/icap.log and /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log. On OpenVMS systems,
these files are sys$manager:icap.log and sys$manager:operator.log.
Additional Troubleshooting steps for email connectivity
If you are using asset reporting, perform the following additional troubleshooting steps to make
sure that HP is able to receive an email message from the iCAP software:
1. Execute this command:
/usr/sbin/icapnotify <reply_address>
Where reply_address is the email address where you want HP to send a confirmation
message.
2. Verify that HP replies with a confirmation email message, to the reply address specified in
step 1.
If you do not receive the confirmation email message in step 2 from HP, then your partition is
unable to send email over the internet to the hp.com domain. For details on troubleshooting your
email configuration, see “Diagnosing email configuration” (page 122).
Diagnosing email configuration
Follow these steps to confirm the email configuration or to aid in debugging the configuration:
1. Send an email message from your system to an email address in the same domain (intranet)
and confirm receipt of the email message.
2. Send an email message from your system to an email address outside of your domain (to the
internet, for example, to a yahoo or hotmail email address) and confirm receipt of the email
message.
3. Send an email message from your system to someone at HP (for example, a HP representative
in a local account team) and confirm the person at HP received the email message.
4. As root, execute the command:
/usr/sbin/icapnotify <reply_address>
This command sends an email message to the HP audit application. HP sends a confirmation
email message to the reply address that is specified. Receipt of the confirmation email message
confirms successful email configuration.
5. If the previous steps are all successful, but asset reports are still not visible at the HP portal,
examine your email configuration to determine whether outgoing messages are automatically
being modified or appended, such as to include something like a privacy notice. Additions
or modifications to encrypted asset reports can cause the portal to reject them.
If any of these steps do not produce the correct result, see “Configuring email on Instant Capacity
systems” (page 206) for details on how to correctly configure email connectivity for iCAP.
Resolving errors during addition of standby GM
While adding Standy GM there is a possibility of certificate exchange failure for the SD2 members.
This can be resolved by re-adding the member to the GM.
Handling errors while re-adding GiCAP member
Follow these steps if you get an error while re-adding a member to a GM from both active GM
and standy GM:
1. Execute the cimtrust -l command to view the list of certificates present in the GM (AGM
and SGM).
