10 Troubleshooting error messages
This chapter covers typical error messages and recommended actions for the iCAP usage for HP
Superdome 2 with dynamic cores.
General cases
OA> poweron partition 2:1
Cannot send poweron request to partition 2:1. Error: iCAP authorization failed.
There are insufficient core usage rights to power on the partition.
Action: Adjust available core usage rights either in the HP Superdome 2 complex or the same
GiCAP.
# icapmodify -T on
The specified option is valid only when the command is executed on the
Onboard Administrator (with Administrator privileges).
#
TiCAP pre-authentication flag can be changed only from the Superdome 2 OA.
Action: Turn on/off the flag on the OA.
# icapmodify -a 4
iCAP authorization denied for partition 1.
Error: Insufficient core usage rights for 4 additional cores.
#
There are insufficient core usage rights to activate some additional cores.
Action: Deactivate some cores either in the same complex or elsewhere in the GiCAP group to
realize the above core activation request.
# icapmodify -a 10
Error: Invalid value specified for cores.
#
Additional core activation extends beyond the number of the physically assigned cores for the
partition.
Action: Check the number of inactive cores in the partition.
(2.53.0 FW or earlier)
OA> icapmodify -p 2:1 -a 4
Error: Insufficient cpu cores during add or delete in a virtual partition.
(3.6.48 FW or later)
OA> icapmodify -p 2:1 -a 4
Modification request failed.
There are physical cores unavailable to activate additional ones.
Action: Check the indictment list in the OA health repository.
# icapmodify -a 8
Error: nPar has less cores to activate than requested.
#
There are insufficient healthy cores to activate.
Action: Check the OA syslog and OA health repository. If blades in the nPar get indicted at the
nPar power-on and then acquitted, then reboot the nPar.
