HP Instant Capacity Version 10.x User Guide (762794-001, March 2014)

Table 11 Email sent by the iCAP software (continued)
Email MessageTriggered By
An exception report (for noncompliance) is sent to the system contact,
if specified, and root.
icapd (daily, if more than expected cores,
memory, cells, are active; also if TiCAP has a
negative balance)
An iCAP enforcement message is sent to the system contact, if specified,
and root.
icapd (if one or more cores are deactivated
at boot time to enforce compliance)
Information about why the virtual partition is not being allowed to boot
is sent to the system contact, if specified, and root.
vPars startup (when the virtual partition has
more cores assigned to it than the number of
intended active cores for the nPartition)
A warning message is sent to the system contact, if specified, and root,
stating that the Group Manager must adjust the number of sharing
rights.
icapmodify (when a codeword is applied
to a GiCAP member which modifies the
number of cores without usage rights on that
member, and available sharing rights are
insufficient, triggering a lockout on all groups;
or when incompatible hardware is added)
An informational message is sent to indicate that core usage rights
have been acquired from an inactive group member.
icapmanage (when usage rights are seized
from an unavailable server)
An informational message is sent to indicate that usage rights seized
from an inactive group member have expired and therefore the seized
usage rights are reverted to the original group member.
icapmanage (when seized usage rights
expire)
An exception report (for noncompliance) is sent to the system contact,
if specified, and root.
icapmodify (when a group is noncompliant
due to a lack of sharing rights or for hardware
noncompliance)
If asset reporting is configured, and the system has email connectivity to HP, these messages are
sent to HP:
Table 12 Asset reporting email sent by the iCAP software
Email MessageTriggered By
An asset report is sent to the reply address, root, and HP (the asset
report sent to HP is encrypted).
icapnotify (on demand)
An encrypted asset report is sent to HP.System startup and system shutdown
An encrypted asset report is sent to HP.icapd (daily at noon)
Does the upgrade of one partition on a server to iCAP version 10.x mean that every partition must
be upgraded?
The HP Utility Pricing Solutions contract requires all participants to run the latest version of the iCAP
software, and to maintain the iCAP software on each partition in the system. Participants who do
not meet these requirements may be in breach of contract. However, there may be some
circumstances where you cannot upgrade to the latest version of iCAP. In these cases, it is possible
to run mixed versions, but HP does not test or guarantee interoperability except within the
documented upgrade procedures and restrictions. Earlier versions of iCAP prior to version 6 need
to be upgraded, as described in “Upgrading to Instant Capacity version B.06.x or later (HP-UX)”
(page 202). However, to use the GiCAP features, the Group Manager, the standby Group Manager
(if any), and all OS instances on all member systems must be running version 9.0 or later of the
iCAP software.
