8 Using iCAP on HP Integrity Superdome 2
This chapter discusses iCAP features on HP Integrity Superdome 2 systems. Depending on the
Onboard Administrator (OA) firmware version, the functionalities of HP Integrity Superdome 2
systems might differ.
For information on the iCAP features on HP Integrity Superdome 2 with dynamic cores capabilities,
see “HP Integrity Superdome 2 with dynamic cores” (page 97).
For information on the iCAP features on HP Integrity Superdome 2 without dynamic cores
capabilities, see “HP Integrity Superdome 2 ” (page 87).
HP Integrity Superdome 2
Overview
iCAP: From compliance check paradigm to self enforcement
The iCAP software on HP Integrity Superdome 2 does not perform a compliance check on the
complex to check if the complex meets the iCAP contract. This functionality is available with HP
Integrity Superdome 2 systems with dynamic cores capability. To comply with the iCAP terms and
conditions, you must self enforce the compliance check with the help of tools and options provided
by the iCAP software. The following cases describe how to perform self enforcement in various
scenarios.
Case 1 — The customer has purchased a few iCAP cell blades
1. Boot the partitions on the complex.
2. Set the usage rights to be used for every partition individually using the iCAP tools and options.
The total of all assigned usage rights assigned on the complex must not exceed the number
of cores on active cell blades, that is, eight times the number of active cell blades.
Case 2 — The customer has purchased some number of iCAP cell blades and some number of
Rights to Use (RTU) for the processors on the cell blades
1. Go to the HP Utility Pricing Portal at www.hp.com/go/icap/portal.
This portal handles all of iCAP transactions.
2. Sign in to the portal using your Passport ID.
If you are a first time user, you must register on this portal to obtain a Passport ID.
3. Click Create codewords.
NOTE: For self enforcement, codewords are not provided but the process used for inventory
tracking mirrors what is used for codewords.
4. Follow the prompts as if you were going to generate an RTU code word. An audit snapshot
of the complex is required to complete the process.
5. Subscribe to receive a mail or keep a record of the transaction.
6. Adjust the core usage rights on the partitions to take advantage of the additional computation
capacity.
Case 3 — GiCAP
To use GiCAP in this model of self-enforcement, a group manager is not required. However, it may
be needed in a later version.
1. Go to the HP Utility Pricing Portal at www.hp.com/go/icap/portal.
This portal handles all of the iCAP transactions.
