HP Instant Capacity Version 10.x User Guide (762794-001, March 2014)

6. Modify the count of cores for partitions so that they boot up with the expected number of
cores.
Expected number of cores must match the number of cores that were active for each partition
in Step 2.
For nPars, issue the following command to set the intended active value:
parmodify -n core:<Intended Active value> -p <nPar Id>
For vPars, issue the following command to set the assigned cores value:
vparmodify -m cpu::< Size of vPar> -p nParID:vParID
Or
You can also use the -d option to decrease the number of assigned cores.
7. Set up the iCAP inventory with the set codeword to match with the inventory obtained from
Step 2.
You can obtain codewords from the Utility Pricing Solutions web portal at:
http://www.hp.com/go/icap/portal
8. Boot the partitions.
9. Verify if the iCAP inventory and the partition setup is the same as noted during Step 2.
Case 2 — Upgrading without reboot
1. Note the iCAP inventory and TiCAP/IAC balance in each partition (nPars and vPars) of the
HP Integrity Superdome 2 server with the initial release firmware bits.
2. Update the Utility Pricing Solutions portal such that both the iCAP inventory and portal inventory
information match.
3. Issue the following command within each partition to activate all cores in all the partitions:
icapmodify s 0
4. Upgrade the firmware to the codeword-enforced iCAP firmware bits.
At this stage, the partitions are powered up and you can use the iCAP commands.
For information on how to upgrade firmware, see the Update command in the HP Integrity
Superdome 2 Onboard Administrator Command Line Interface User Guide
5. Modify the count of cores for partitions so that they run with the expected number of cores.
Expected number of cores must match the number of cores that were active for each partition
in Step 2.
To modify the count:
Issue the following command from partitions:
icapmodify -s <n>
Or
Issue the following command from the Onboard Administrator:
icapmodify -s < n > -p nParID:vParID
where, n is the required number of active cores.
6. Set up the iCAP inventory as expected from Step 2 with the set codeword.
You can obtain the codeword from the Utility Pricing Solutions web portal at:
http://www.hp.com/go/icap/portal
7. Verify if the iCAP inventory and the partition set up is the same as noted during Step 2.
