HP Integrity Virtual Server Manager 6.1 Release Notes

This document provides information about the HP Integrity Virtual Server Manager 6.1 release.
Integrity Virtual Server Manager overview
Integrity Virtual Server Manager 6.1 is used to manage virtual machines (VMs) and virtual partitions
(vPars). It supports the features of HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM 6.1.
Integrity Virtual Server Manager
Integrity Virtual Server Manager is an application that you can use from your browser to manage
HP Integrity VMs (Integrity VM) and vPar resources. Based on the version of Integrity VM installed,
you can manage either VMs or vPars, or both at the same time.
Virtualization Services Platform
The Virtualization Services Platform (VSP) is a server that hosts multiple VMs or vPars. You can
manage the VMs and vPars on the VSP from the Virtual Server Manager GUI or the HP-UX vPars
and Integrity VM 6.1 CLI. For more information about HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM 6.1, see the
HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM 6.1 Administrator Guide at www.hp.com/go/hpux-vpars-docs.
HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM
HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM 6.1 is the new generation of the vPars and Integrity VM product
family. This new version expands VMs or vPars functionality to the Integrity blade servers. HP-UX
vPars and Integrity VM 6.1 provide workload flexibility through the ability to add and remove
CPUs from a running vPar. For more information about HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM 6.1, see the
HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM 6.1 Administrator Guide at www.hp.com/go/hpux-vpars-docs.
Matrix Operating Environment and Virtual Server Manager
HP Matrix Operating Environment v7.1 supports HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM 6.1. For more
information about Matrix Operating Environment, see the HP Matrix Operating Environment Getting
Started Guide available at http://www.hp.com/go/matrixoe/docs.
New and changed features in this release
This section describes the new and changed features in the Integrity Virtual Server Manager 6.1
release.
New features
The HP Integrity Virtual Server Manager version 6.1 supports the features of HP-UX vPars and
Integrity VM version 6.1. This version allows you to manage VMs or vPars. You can create, modify,
and delete VMs or vPars on a virtualization service platform or VSP system.
Integrity Virtual Server Manager 6.1 supports both VMs and vPars management; however, managing
VMs or vPars are enabled or disabled depending on the version of Integrity VM installed.
The menus to manage VMs or vPars are disabled in the following cases:
If Integrity VM version 4.3PK2 or earlier is installed, you can manage VMs, but vPars are not
supported.
If HP vPars 6.0 is installed, you can manage vPars; however, the menu items applicable to
VMs are disabled.
If HP-UX vPars and Integrity VM 6.1 is installed, you can manage VMs or vPars. The menu
items are enabled based on the selected guest.
The following feature is new with Integrity Virtual Server Manager 6.1:
The Direct Input Output (DIO) feature provides a VM or a vPar with near native I/O functionality,
manageability, and performance by giving a VM or a vPar direct access to Host PCI Express (PCIe)
