Dynamic Home Agent Allocation with Static Home Address
In this scenario, the Mobile Node does not know its Home Agent address, but it does
know its home address and home network subnet broadcast address. The Mobile Node
sends a Registration Request with the Home Agent Address field set to its home network
subnet broadcast address or 255.255.255.255.
When the AAAH receives the AA-Mobile Node Request with the Registration Request,
the AAAH allocates a Home Agent for the Mobile Node based on the user NAI or the
Home Agent Address field (which may contain the home network subnet broadcast
address). Therefore, the AAAH should have subnet broadcast addresses configured for
the Home Agents in this scenario.
If there are multiple Home Agents that qualify, the AAAH may allocate the Home Agent
based on a round-robin or first-fit algorithm.
The Foreign Agent will update its information for the Mobile Node with the allocated
Home Agent address when it receives the AA-Mobile Node Answer with the Mobile IPv4
Registration Reply.
Dynamic Home Agent Allocation with Dynamic Home Address
In this scenario, the Mobile Node does not know its Home Agent address, home address,
or home network subnet address. The Mobile Node sends a Registration Request with
0.0.0.0 or 255.255.255.255 in the Home Agent Address field.
The AAAH allocates a Home Agent for the Mobile Node user based only on its NAI.
If there are multiple Home Agents that qualify, the AAAH may allocate the Home Agent
based on a round-robin or first-fit algorithm. The AAAH or the Home Agent will
dynamically allocate a home address for the Mobile Node.
The Foreign Agent will update its information for the Mobile Node with the allocated
Home Agent address and home address when it receives the AA-Mobile Node Answer
(AMA) with the Mobile IPv4 Registration Reply.
