Starting the Home and Foreign Agent Daemon (mipd)
The mipd daemon provides Home Agent and Foreign Agent services. There are two ways
to start mipd:
Automatically, at system startup time
Manually, using the mipadmin utility
In most cases, you will want mipd to automatically start at system startup time.
Automatically Starting mipd at System Startup
The /etc/rc.config.d/mipdconf file contains information used by system startup
scripts to automatically start mipd when the system is started. To enable this feature, set
the MIPD variable to 1 in the /etc/rc.config.d/mipdconf file:
MIPD=1
Optionally, you can change the file name of the mipd configuration file. By default, mipd
will use the configuration file /var/adm/mip/mipd.conf. You can change this by setting
the MIPD_CONF_FILE variable to a different file name.
After you modify the /etc/rc.config.d/mipdconf file, mipd will automatically start
the next time the system starts up. To start mipd immediately, use the mipadmin utility,
as described below.
Manually Starting mipd Using mipadmin
Use the following mipadmin command to manually start mipd:
mipadmin -start
This command starts the mipd daemon and will also shutdown and restart the interfaces
configured for Mobile IPv4. The mipadmin utility will print a warning message and ask
you to confirm that you want to start the daemon:
NOTE: starting mipd with /var/adm/mip/mipd.conf
WARNING: Interface lan0 will be shutdown and restarted with NOFASTPATH
enabled
Start mipd? (yes)
Press RETURN or type yes to start the daemon. Enabling NOFASTPATH allows the Mobile
IPv4 software to extract the Mobile Nodes’ link-level addresses. (The HP-UX Mobile
IPv4 shutdown script and mipadmin disable the NOFASTPATH option when the HP-UX
Mobile IPv4 software is shutdown.)
