Interface Card Critical Resource Analysis(CRA) Whitepaper for HP-UX 11i v3

Criticality reported by CRA: CRA_DATA_CRITICAL
Explanation and user action required:
The above nwmgr(1M) operation with –-delete option (if it were to be allowed) will delete the NIC
port in the link aggregate, which may result in the reduction of the available network I/O bandwidth
of the APA group and may impact the LAN failover capability.
Because of the above reasons, the requested nwmgr operation will not be allowed by CRA to
proceed and the operation will fail with CRA_DATA_CRITICAL error.
To check the resource usage over APA, run the following nwmgr command with the –-cra option:
#nwmgr –cra –c lan<apa_ppa>
However, if the user wants to override the CRA criticality report, he can do so at his own risk by using
the –f option of the nwmgr command.
If the user wants to perform the delete operation for system administration purposes without impacting
system availability, add another NIC port in the APA group.
For more information, see lanadmin (1M) and nwmgr (1M).
Service Guard Configuration Scenarios
Scenario 15
System Configuration:
HP-UX system is running with a NIC, configured with an IP address and the
NIC is configured as heart-beat or stand-by LAN in Service Guard cluster configuration. The SG
configuration, in addition includes one or more other LAN cards.
User Scenario:
Replace one of the LAN cards with another card of same model.
Operation Performed:
# olrad –C | -r <slot id>
Criticality reported by CRA:
CRA_DATA_CRITICAL
Explanation and user action required:
The olrad(1M) command with –C option reports the resource usage and its criticality.
The above operation with olrad(1M) with –r option (if it were to be allowed) will lead to temporary
loss of either the SG heart-beat or the stand-by LAN connection, thereby resulting in degradation of
redundancy in highly-available cluster configuration.
Because of the above reason, the requested olrad operation will not be allowed by CRA to proceed
and the operation will fail with CRA_DATA_CRITICAL error.
However, if the user wants to override the CRA criticality report, he can do so at his own risk by using
the –f option of the olrad command and replace the card with the same type of card.
Scenario 16
System Configuration:
HP-UX system is running with a NIC, configured with an IP address and the
NIC is configured as heart-beat or stand-by LAN in Service Guard cluster configuration.
User Scenario:
To delete and add a different card which can be claimed by the same or different
driver.
