Installation of VxFS and VxVM 5.1 SP1 on HP-UX 11i v3 March 2011 Operating Environment Update Release Whitepaper (April 2011)

1. Introduction
The September 2009 HP-UX 11i v3 Operating Environment Update Release
(OEUR) and later versions of HP-UX 11i v3 install the VxFS version 5.0 by default.
The September 2009 OEUR and later versions contain the following:
• VxFS 4.1 (Base-VXFS bundle) — required installed in all OEs
• OnlineJFS 4.1 (B3929EA bundle) — optional in all OEs
• VxFS 5.0 (Base-VxFS-50 bundle) — recommended (default) installed in
all OEs
• OnlineJFS 5.0 (B3929FB bundle) — recommended (default) installed in
DCOE, VSEOE and HAOE
• VxVM 5.0 (Base-VxVM-50 bundle) — optional in all OEs
IMPORTANT NOTES:
 In the September 2009 OEUR and later versions, VxFS 5.0 is installed by
default.
 OnlineJFS 4.1 and VxVM 5.0 are not installed by default as it was in OEURs
prior to the September 2009 OEUR.
 VxVM 5.0 is included in the September 2009 and later 11i v3 OEURs or AR
media. Explicit selection of VxVM 5.0 in the Ignite-UX tool is required to
install VxVM.
If you decide to install the 5.1 SP1 version of VxFS and VxVM instead of the 5.0
version (which is installed by default), this paper provides the instructions to install
VxFS/VxVM 5.1 SP1 when cold installing (or updating) from the March 2011 11i
v3 OEUR and later.
