Veritas 5.0.1 Installation Guide, HP-UX 11i v3, First Edition, November 2009

1. Stop activity to all Storage Management for Oracle volumes. For example, stop any
applications such as databases that access the volumes and unmount any file systems that
have been created on the volumes.
2. If you have any external Array Policy Modules (APMs) installed, uninstall the APMs. The
following warning message displays during the operating system upgrade:
WARNING: The file '/usr/conf/mod/dmpXXX.1' does not contain valid
kernel code.
You can ignore this message because it does not affect the functionality of Storage
Management for Oracle.
3. Upgrade from HP-UX 11i v2 to the latest available HP-UX 11i v3 fusion release. This upgrade
will install Base-VxVM 5.0 by default.
For more information on upgrading to HP-UX 11i v3, see the HP-UX 11i v3 Installation and
Update Guide at: http://www.docs.hp.com.
All disk groups created using Storage Management for Oracle 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v2 would
be accessible.
4. If patches to HP-UX 11i v3 are required, apply the patches before upgrading the product.
5. Install Storage Management for Oracle 5.0.1 for HP-UX 11i v3:
swinstall -x autoreboot=true -s <depot-path> T2789DB
6. Configure Storage Management for Oracle 5.0.1 HP-UX 11i v3 using the installsf
-configure option. For more information on configuring your system after the installation,
see “Configuring Your System after the Installation” (page 39).
7. Disk groups created using VxVM 4.1 can be imported after upgrading to VxVM 5.0. However,
HP recommends that you upgrade the VxVM disk groups to the latest version. For
information on upgrading the VxVM cluster protocol version, see “Upgrading the VxVM
Cluster Protocol Version” (page 74). For information on upgrading VxVM disk group
versions, see “Upgrading VxVM Disk Group Versions” (page 74).
Upgrading from Storage Management for Oracle 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v2
to Storage Management for Oracle 5.0.1 on HP-UX 11i v3
This section discusses the procedure to upgrade Storage Management for Oracle 5.0 on HP-UX
11i v2 to Storage Management for Oracle 5.0.1 on HP-UX 11i v3.
As all disk group versions supported by Veritas Volume Manager 5.0 are also supported by
Veritas Volume Manager 5.0.1, disk groups created in Storage Management for Oracle 5.0 are
accessible by Storage Management for Oracle 5.0.1 after the upgrade. However, certain features
in Storage Management for Oracle 5.0.1 may require the latest disk group version. Therefore,
HP recommends that you upgrade the disk group.
NOTE:
If the authentication service was not configured prior to the upgrade, it remains unconfigured
after the upgrade. The installation logs contain a message stating that vxatd is not started
because it was not configured. This is the expected behavior and you can ignore the log
message.
If you are upgrading from HP-UX 11i v2 to HP-UX 11i v3 with older fusions (prior to HP-UX
11i v3 Update 3) as an intermediate step, disk groups created using VxVM 5.0 are not
accessible until you upgrade to Storage Management for Oracle 5.0.1.
Additionally, you must convert VxVM root volumes to LVM.
To upgrade from Storage Management for Oracle 5.0 on HP-UX 11i v2 to Storage Management
for Oracle 5.0.1 on HP-UX 11i v3, complete the following steps:
