Veritas File System 5.0 Release Notes
New Features
Chapter 1 13
The multi-volume file system (MVFS) support enables several volumes to be represented by a single
logical object. MVFS availability allows you to mount a multi-volume file system even if the
component data-only volume is missing or becomes unavailable. Any I/O error on a data-only volume
will not affect access to non-data-only volumes. In addition, all VxFS operations that do not access the
missing data-only volume will function normally. This helps guarantee the availability of some volumes
even when other volumes within the file system are not available.
NOTE MVFS is not available with Base-VxFS and HP OnlineJFS bundles. To enable the
MVFS feature, an additional license is required.
Dynamic Storage Tiering
Dynamic Storage Tiering (DST) allows administrators of multi-volume VxFS file systems to manage
the placement of files on individual volumes in a volume set by defining placement policies that control
both initial file location and the circumstances under which existing files are relocated.
NOTE The DST feature is not available with Base-VxFS and HP OnlineJFS. To enable the
DST feature an additional license is required.
2K volumes in a volume set
The limit on the number of volumes allowed in a volume set is now increased from 256 to 2048.
NOTE The 2K volume support is not available with Base-VxFS and HP OnlineJFS. To enable
this feature an additional license is required.
Oracle resilvering
Oracle resilvering prevents double re-syncing of block writes related to Oracle transactions when the
Oracle log does not have confirmation records. In addition, this feature provides performance
improvement to the Oracle recovery process on mirrored volumes.
NOTE Oracle resilvering is not available with Base-VxFS and HP OnlineJFS bundles. To use
the Oracle resilvering feature, an additional license is required.
