Veritas File System 5.0 Release Notes
End of Support
Chapter 1 15
NOTE You can download the patches PHCO_35304, and PHCO_35130, from
http://itrc.hp.com
If LVM is used the user needs to install the following patches as a safeguard for potential data
corruption.
LVM
The default disk layout of VxFS 5.0 is version 7. When reducing a volume, LVM checks on the volume
to prevent part of the existing filesystem from getting lost. Likewise, when an LVM physical volume is
created, LVM checks to make sure that it is not clobbering an existing filesystem. LVM does not
recognize a VxFS 5.0 filesystem with Disk Layout Version 7. To make LVM work with Disk Layout
Version 7, PHCO_33308 needs to be installed.
swapon
PHCO_33238 must be installed on the system for swapon command to enable VxFS 5.0 filesystem for
paging.
End of Support
VxFS 5.0 does not support creating or mounting file systems using Version 1, 2, or 3 disk layout. HP
recommends that you upgrade all older disk layouts to Version 7.
This is the last VxFS release to support Disk Layout Version 4 and Disk Layout Version 5. Upgrade all
current file system disk layouts to Version 7 to enable new Veritas File System features and to support
upgrades in future releases.
The nau, ausize, aufirst, aupad and ninode options to the mkfs command are not supported.
The mkfs command accepts these options, but ignores them without a warning. These options may be
omitted from the mkfs command in future releases.
The default version for File Change Log (FCL) in VxFS 5.0 is version 4. VxFS 5.0 is the last major
release to support FCL version 3. Upgrade FCL to version 4 to make use of the advanced logging
facilities provided by Version 4 and for facilitating future upgrades.
The fscdstask command, used for performing online Cross-Platform Data Sharing (CDS) operations,
has been replaced by the fscdsadm command. Support for the fscdstask command might be
dropped in future VxFS releases.
