Product Description
The Veritas File System, or VxFS, is an extent-based, intent logging file system. VxFS is designed for use in
UNIX environments that require high performance and availability, and deal with large volumes of data.
New Features
Support for Large Directories
VxFS 5.0 introduces an alternate indexing mechanism to improve the performance of file system
operations on directories with a large number of entries.
File Change Log
The VxFS File Change Log (FCL) tracks changes to files and directories in a file system. The FCL can
be used by applications, such as backup products, webcrawlers, search engines, indexing engines, and
replication software that typically scan an entire file system searching for modification since a previous
scan. This feature was introduced with the VxFS 4.1 release on HP-UX. FCL is supported only on
VxFS file systems with Disk Layout Version 6 or above.
