Note: As is customary before performing any kind of conversion or upgrade, back
up your database and LVM configuration information before converting LVM
volume groups to VxVM disk groups.
For detailed information on converting LVM volume groups, you must refer to
the volume manager migration guide.

Converting native file systems to VxFS for Oracle Disk
Manager
If you are currently using file systems native to your operating system, you can
use the following procedure to upgrade each file system used by the database to
a VxFS file system.
You can then use the Oracle Disk Manager feature.
Warning: Do not upgrade your root file system to VxFS.
Before starting the conversion procedure, make sure the following conditions
have been met:
To configure Oracle Disk Manager, follow the procedure for setting
up Veritas extension for Oracle Disk Manager.

Prerequisites
To convert a JFS file system to VxFS for Oracle Disk Manager

Shut down the database.

Create a backup of the HFS file system.

Unmount the HFS file system.

Remove the HFS entry in the /etc/fstab file.

Create a VxFS file system of the same size as the original HFS file system,
using the mount point where the HFS file system was originally mounted.

Preallocate ODM files using odmmkfile. Make the files the same size or larger
than what they were on the original HFS file system.
