VERITAS Volume Manager 3.5 Release Notes (August 2003)

VERITAS Volume Manager™ HP-UX 11i v2 Release Notes
Patches and Fixes in This Version
Chapter 1 37
Removing DMP Disks
Problem: The vxdisk rm command only logically removes a disk. It
does not remove the disk from DMP. Therefore, the disk may
re-appear after a vxdctl enable even if the disk has been physically
removed.
Workaround: Restart usingvxconfigd. This causes the DMP
database to be updated, and the physically removed device will no
longer appear.
Miscellaneous Issues
Warning Message From vxconfigd
Problem: The following warning message may appear from
vxconfigd:
vxvm:vxconfigd: WARNING: Get of record <vol> from kernel
failed
Workaround: No workaround is required. This is due to an ioctl()
failure when vxconfigd tries to get a record from the kernel.
Problem: During the first reboot after successfully upgrading from
HPUX 11.22 to 11.23 on a VxVM rootable system, the pre_init_rc
script detects a mismatch between the major device numbers for the
device nodes in /dev/vx and the current values for these device
nodes. To rectify this problem, the root file system, which has been
mounted as read-only, will be remounted with read/write
permissions and the device nodes will be updated with the current
values. When vxconfigd is restarted, the following warning
messages will appear:
vxvm:vxconfigd: WARNING: volboot: Incorrect protocol version
(20) in volboot file.
vxvm:vxconfigd: WARNING: volboot: Using the highest supported
protocol version 40.
Workaround: No workaround is required. These messages are
normal and are expected in this scenario. They indicate that the
volboot file is being updated from it’s version in VxVM 3.1 on HPUX
11.22 to the new version in VxVM 3.5 on HPUX 11.23.
