parmodify describes functionality on systems with Onboard Administrator (OA) based parti-

tion management. For parmodify on systems not running OA based partition management,

refer to parmodify1 (1M) by typing man parmodify1.

DESCRIPTION

The

parmodify command is used to modify the attributes of an existing nPartition or a partition

speciﬁcation. This command can modify the following attributes:

nPartition name (

-P)

VGA assignment (-V):

Enable VGA in the nPartition

Disable VGA in the nPartition

Next boot mode (-N):

Boot as a single partition (nPars mode)

Boot as one or more virtual partitions (vPars mode)

Partition Specification (

-X):

Partition specification change policy

Blade assignment (

-a, -d):

Add blades to the nPartition

Delete blades from the nPartition

Attributes of existing blades (-m):

use_on_next_boot

failure_usage

slm_value (Socket Local Memory)

IO bay assignment (-a, -d):

Add IO bays to the nPartition

Delete IO bays from the nPartition

Attribute of existing IO bays (-m):

use_on_next_boot

Superuser permission is required to run this command from the partition side. When the command is

invoked from the Onboard Administrator (OA), it requires operator privilege level or above. To target

non-local partitions when the command is invoked from the partition side, the invoking partition needs

appropriate privileges. See the parperm (1M) manpage for details.

parmodify2(1M) For OA Based Partition Management Systems parmodify2(1M) Options and Arguments parmodify recognizes the following command line options and arguments: -p nPartition_id Specifies the nPartition to be modified. nPartition_id can be specified either as a number or a name. As part of modifying the nPartition, the current partition specification (parspec) associated with the nPartition is also updated. Note: The -p and -Z options are mutually exclusive.

parmodify2(1M) For OA Based Partition Management Systems parmodify2(1M) • As a percentage (ratio). The percent number can be any number in the range 0 - 100 with a suffix of "%". This number will be rounded up to 12.5%, 25%, 37.5%, 50%, 62.5%, 75%, 87% or 100%. If the blade contains less than 4 GB memory, then the percentage will be rounded to 25%, 50%, 75% or 100%.

parmodify2(1M) For OA Based Partition Management Systems parmodify2(1M) blade_path specifies the blade resource path. It can be specified in short, medium, or long format. For example, the blade located in enclosure 1, slot 3 is identified in the short format as 1/3, in the medium format as blade-1/3, or in the long format as enclosure1/blade3. -d io:iobay_path Deletes the specified I/O bay from the nPartition. To delete multiple I/O bays from the nPartition, multiple -d options should be used.

parmodify2(1M) For OA Based Partition Management Systems parmodify2(1M) partition specification, each capable of running its own OS instance. The valid values for next_boot_mode are case-insensitive nPars and vPars. By default, an nPartition is booted in nPars mode. If an active nPartition (-p) is targeted by the parmodify operation, the current partition specification is updated to reflect the mode set by this option and will take into effect at the next nPartition reboot.

parmodify2(1M) For OA Based Partition Management Systems parmodify2(1M) changes in the parspec. If the parspec change policy is disabled, the affected partition operation is failed and no changes are made to the parspec. RETURN VALUE The parmodify command exits with one of the following values: 0 1 Successful completion. Error condition occurred. EXAMPLES Add a new blade in enclosure 1 slot 3 to the existing nPartition 2 and activate it.
