parperm(1M)
For OA Based Partition Management Systems
parperm(1M)
EXAMPLES
1) Remove nPartition configuration restriction (unrestrict) from an OS running in nPartition 1, ena-
bling it to perform nPartition configuration operations on nPartitions other than nPartition 1.
parperm npar on 1
2) Remove nPartition configuration restriction from an OS running in a virtual partition 1 of nParti-
tion 2, enabling it to perform nPartition operations on nPartitions other than nPartition 2.
parperm npar on 2:1
3) An OS running in a virtual partition 1 of nPartition 2 remains restricted if only the nPartition 2 is
unrestricted.
parperm npar on 2
Issuing this command does not unrestrict virtual partition 2:1. However, if virtual partition 2:1 is
shut down, and the nPartition is booted in nPartition mode later, the OS running on nPartition 2 is
unrestricted and can do nPartition configuration operations on other nPartitions.
4) An OS running in an nPartition 1 or a virtual partition in an nPartition 1 is not restricted from issu-
ing nPartition commands on nPartition 1.
5) Remove restriction from an OS running in a virtual partition 1 of nPartition 2 to enable it to per-
form virtual partition configuration operations on other virtual partitions of nPartition 2.
parperm vpar on 2:1
6) Unrestricting an OS running in nPartition 2 with vPar scope does not enable it to perform virtual
partition configuration operations on other nPartitions.
For example, the following is not supported:
parperm vpar on 2
7) An OS running in nPartition 1 is not restricted from performing virtual partition commands for
nPartition 1.
8) An OS running in a virtual partition 1 of an nPartition 2 is not restricted from performing virtual
partition commands for virtual partition 1 of nPartition 2.
ERRORS
OA syslog contains additional description of errors encountered during partition operations. Users can
view the OA syslog from the OA using the SHOW SYSLOG OA command.
Error: System unable to accept partition commands
The above error message is printed out under the following circumstances:
• Attempting to run command from an OA other than the active OA in enclosure 1.
• System has been shut down (e.g. with POWEROFF XFABRIC, or ambient overtemp).
• The OA has not finished initializing.
In the above scenarios, please ensure the system and OA are completely up and you are running the com-
mand from the active OA in enclosure 1.
