HP Integrity Virtual Machines Manager 4.1 Software: User Guide

virtual machine Serviceguard package is managed by another VM Host, these tabs display
a new icon to indicate so; flyover text indicates the name of the VM Host actively managing
the virtual machine (Serviceguard guest package). In addition, if a virtual machine is
configured as a Serviceguard package, the VM Properties General tab displays the name
of the Integrity VM multiserver environment (MSE) group. This grouping is required when
a set of Integrity VM servers is also configured as a Serviceguard cluster. Virtual machines
configured as Serviceguard packages automatically fail over to another node in the Integrity
VM MSE.
In addition, VM Manager can now start, restart, stop, and delete virtual machines that are
configured as Serviceguard packages. VM Manager uses its ability to detect whether a virtual
machine is controlled by Serviceguard and then implements the appropriate Serviceguard
commands to perform the actions. In prior releases, VM Manager could not perform these
actions.
Support for creating files on the VM Host that are used as backing storage devices for
virtual disks (Virtual FileDisks) on virtual machines
You can now use the Create Virtual Machine wizard Add storage device screen or
ModifyAdd storage device to virtual machine... to create a file for use as a backing storage
device for virtual disks. In prior releases, this had to be done manually from the VM Host
command line.
Support for removing network or storage devices from a virtual machine
Prior to this release, I/O devices had to be deleted manually from the VM Host command
line. With this release, VM Manager includes a new Delete menu option for removing I/O
network and storage devices. For more information, see “Deleting network or storage Devices”
(page 108).
This release of Insight Dynamics provides the Insight managed system setup wizard. You
can use this wizard to check virtual machines for the appropriate versions of the provider
software and to install provider software as needed on supported platforms. (On a VM Host,
you must install the appropriate providers manually.) The wizard also performs other
services to configure systems so that they can be managed in the Insight Dynamics
environment. For more information, see the Insight managed system setup wizard getting started
guide, available from the HP Technical Documentation website:
