This release notes discuss the HP-UX 11i v3 (September 2011) release of the Support Tools Manager

(STM).

Note: On the HP-UX 11i v3 operating system, Online Diagnostics does not support tape drives.

Although some of the Support Tools Manager (STM) tools may work with tape drives, they are not

supported. The diagnostic tools and utilities that support these devices are HP StorageWorks Library

and Tape Tools (L and TT). These tools are available at:

Overview

The Support Tools Manager (STM) provides a set of online support tools for the HP-UX system,

enabling you to verify and troubleshoot system hardware, and to examine system logs.

STM offers several tool types, including Information tools, Verifiers, Exercisers, Expert tools, Firmware

Update tools, Diagnostics and Utilities.

Prerequisites Following are the prerequisites for installing Diagnostics and Support Tools: EMS version A.04.20.31 or later ProviderSvcsBase C.01.00.xx (March 2009) or later Notes: • The requirements are available on the Operating Environment (OE) media. ProviderSvcsBase: The ProviderSvcsBase product offers interface for user space processes (typically, but not limited to, WBEM Indication Providers) to retrieve error logs from HP-UX Kernel.

Known Problems and Workaround • Symptom: Re-installation of OnlineDiag alone causes core-hw events not to be logged into /var/opt/resmon/log/event.log in SFM mode. Problem: When OnlineDiag is removed, it will remove the complete monitor directory. This causes the removal of the reverse wrapper which consumes SFM events and log into EMS event.log. Hence when you install OnlineDiag again, the reverse wrapper for SFM providers does not come up.

3. 4. /sbin/init.d/diagnostic stop /sbin/init.d/diagnostic start • The title of the OnlineDiag B.11.31.17.04 version bundle is displayed as “March 2011” instead of “September 2011.” You can ignore the incorrect title. • Symptom: System port scan software can cause the diagmond process to exit. Problem: The system port which the diagmond process uses should be explicitly used for diagmond. If other applications try to access this port, the diagmond process exits.
