What’s in This Version

This version of SNAplus2 (R7.11.11.001), referred to in this document as SNAplus2 R7 is

supported on the HP-UX 11iv1 operating system. SNAplus2 R7 introduces the following

features:

• SNAplus2 Connectivity

SNAplus2 R7 supports the following new connectivity options:

— High Performance Routing (HPR)

HPR is an extension of the APPN architecture, which provides the following functions:

RTP (Rapid Transport Protocol) and ANR (Automatic Network Routing). RTP

minimizes processing cycles and storage requirements while routing network layer

packets through intermediate nodes on a session route. ANR enables APPN networks

to automatically reroute sessions around path failures.

— HPR over IP (or Enterprise Extender)

HPR over IP provides SNA transport over an IP network. In conjunction with

Dependent Logical Unit Requester (DLUR), HPR over IP can transport both

dependent and independent SNA sessions across IP links.

• SNAplus2 Node Types

SNAplus2 R7 supports the following additional node types:

— Network Node

SNAplus2 can now operate as a Network Node, an End Node or, a LEN Node

depending on its conﬁguration. The Network Node takes full advantage of the

Advanced Peer to Peer Network (APPN) facilities, including dynamic conﬁguration

and resource location.

— Branch Network Node (uses Branch Extender)

The Branch Network node combines the functions of a Network Node and an End

Node. The Branch Network Node helps subdivide a network into a backbone network

and attached branch networks.

• SNAplus2 API

SNAplus2 supports the following additional APIs:

— Advanced Program to Program Communication (APPC) Application Suite (ASUITE)
