HP Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager 7.1 Release Notes

Using Expanded VLAN capacity with the Complete VC domain Maintenance operation
Before enabling Expanded VLAN capacity for a VC domain during Maintenance Mode, make
sure the VC domain group that the VC domain belongs to is running firmware mode 3.3x or later.
If you change a VC domain to Expanded VLAN Capacity and the Virtual Connect domain group
firmware mode is lower than 3.3x, the Complete VC domain Maintenance mode operation fails,
because VCEM detects that Expanded VLAN capacity is not supported by other VC domains with
older firmware. The VC domain displays the Under maintenance icon and VCEM is unable to
complete or cancel the maintenance operation.
To resolve this:
1. Remove the VC domain from the VC domain group.
2. Delete the VC domain configuration.
3. Add the VC domain to the VC domain group again.
Using Expanded VLAN capacity with the Cancel VC domain Maintenance operation
Cancelling maintenance mode in VCEM will not revert the Expanded VLAN capacity configuration
back to Legacy capacity mode.
If you enable Maintenance Mode, change Legacy capacity to Expanded VLAN capacity, and then
click Cancel VC domain Maintenance, VCEM cannot revert back to Legacy capacity mode in the
VC domain. Instead, the VC domain displays the “Under maintenance icon and VCEM fails to
complete or cancel the maintenance operation. To resolve this, see the procedure to delete the
domain in “Using Expanded VLAN capacity with the Complete VC domain Maintenance operation
(page 7).
Known Problems
Unexpected results from non-blocked (-nb) commands
Do not submit multiple non-blocked commands for a single profile. Later commands may overwrite
the changes made by earlier commands. For example, do not submit a series of non-blocked
commands to add network connections to a given profile. Allow the each command to complete
before submitting the next one. By following this sequence, each command will build on the results
of the previous commands. This is because of the environmental state that is saved with each job
that is submitted.
Assigning a profile to a server with two FlexNIC ports on the same physical NIC
VCEM does not report an error or warning message when assigning a profile to a server with two
FlexNIC ports on the same physical NIC, but VCEM 7.1 includes the following improvements to
help you detect the connection status and ensure that you do not have a misconfiguration:
VC Manager connection status is now included in the VCEM profile.
VC Manager profile status is now displayed in the VCEM GUI.
Changes to the HP Virtual Connect Enterprise Manager online help
The following changes are included in the VCEM 7.1 online help:
Recover server profiles from an unreachable enclosure.
Firmware Update mode allows you to simultaneously update VC firmware across multiple
VCEM managed VC domains.
Dynamically customize the number of server profiles displayed on the VCEM server profile
page.
Enhanced view of VCEM server profile attributes and status.
Enhanced view of VC Manager status.
