Configuring the Print Server for TCP/IP C-3
Configuring the Print
Server for TCP/IP
To transfer files or to print via TCP/IP, the print server must be
assigned a unique IP address. Many companies are running a
TCP/IP-based network to provide Internet services to their
employees. In this case, it is a relatively simple task for the net-
work administrator to assign an IP address to the print server.
If youre already using TCP/IP:
Your network administrator must assign an IP address and
subnet mask to the print server, from the range of IP
addresses assigned to your company.
If your network uses a DNS server, your network administra-
tor may also assign a host name to the print server.
If you are not already using TCP/IP or a local area network, you
can simply connect the printers network cable from your work-
station directly to the printers network port.
You can use the following IP address and subnet mask when your
workstation is cabled directly to the print server network port,
or if they are both on a local area network:
IP Address: 192.168.1.10
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
If you add additional print servers, simply add 1 to the IP
address (for example, the second could be 192.168.1.11; the
third, 192,168.1.12, and so on).
