HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 4.0

NOTE: Ignore the following items when they appear on the screen:
The Kudzu New Hardware Installation Setup Menu
All errors seen during first reboot
The message Cannot get binary type, which you will see when the system reboots
after the upgrade
IMPORTANT: After the software load is complete, ensure that the DVD is ejected from the
drive before continuing. On systems with a retractable DVD device, you must remove the
DVD before the system reboots. This is especially important if the head node is an HP
workstation, which never ejects the DVD.
If you do not remove the DVD, a second upgrade process is initiated from the DVD when
the system reboots. If a second upgrade process is started, halt the process and remove the
DVD. Upon reboot, the system will boot from the original, completed upgrade (assuming
that the second upgrade had not begun).
4. Do not press any keys or take any other action until you see the Login window.
IMPORTANT: During the upgrade process, even when the screen shows "100% installation
over", extra RPM packages might still be in the process of being installed in the background.
Wait until node is rebooted automatically after all RPM packages are installed. The time
might differ from platform to platform.
5. Log in as the user root at the Login window.
Proceed to Section 9.6 (page 145).
9.6 Viewing the Results of the RPM Upgrade
Follow this procedure to view the results of the RPM upgrade process and verify that it was
successful:
1. Use the method of your choice to view the following log file, which contain the results of
the Linux RPM upgrade process; this example uses the more command:
# more /root/upgrade.log
It is expected that you will see RPM upgrade errors in this file; this is typical for standard
Linux upgrades.
Search for the word error in this log file to find upgrade errors. You can safely ignore the
error rpmdb: No such file or directory . These errors are benign.
You can also safely ignore the error %post(rpmpackagename-version-arch)
scriptlet failed, exit status 255. This error is benign; the RPM package is
installed.
2. Use the method of your choice to view the log file that contains the results of the HP XC
RPM upgrade process:
# more /var/log/postinstall.log
3. You must resolve all failed dependencies and RPM conflicts. See Section 14.7 (page 184) for
information about resolving upgrade errors. If you cannot determine how to resolve these
errors, contact the HP XC Support organization at the following e-mail address:
xc_support@hp.com
4. Do not proceed to the next upgrade task until you resolve all RPM upgrade failures.
