HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 4.0

The Master Firmware Tables for this release of the HP XC System Software is available at the
following website:

1.6 Arranging for IP Address Assignments and Host Names
Make arrangements with your site's network administrator to assign IP addresses for the following
system components. All IP addresses must be defined in the site's Domain Name System (DNS)
configuration:
The external IP address of the HP XC system, if it is to be connected to an external network.
The name associated with this interface is known as the Linux Virtual Server (LVS) alias or
cluster alias.
The external IP address of the head node, if it is to be connected to an external network.
The IP address of any other node that will have a Ethernet connection to an external network.
The IP address of additional network address translation (NAT) servers if you are configuring
improved availability for the NAT service.
When you contact your network administrator about assigning IP addresses, you must also
provide the host names for any system that will have a connection to an external network.
Therefore, consider the following:
If you assign a login role to one or more nodes, what name will you use as the cluster alias?
This name is the host name by which users will log in to the system.
What name will you use as the host name for any node that has a connection to the external
network?
See Section B.1 (page 191) if you want to read about HP XC host naming guidelines. HP XC host
naming guidelines adhere to standard Linux host naming conventions.
1.7 Saving the License Key File
Several HP XC software components require licensing, and depending upon the system
configuration, one or more HP XC license key files were sent to you in e-mail messages. If you
have not received the license key information, contact your HP representative.
If you have an older version of the HP XC System Software installed, you do not need a new
license file for this release if you did not add nodes to the hardware configuration.
Follow this procedure to save the license information into one file:
1. On another machine, save the contents of the e-mail messages into one file named XC.lic.
2. Remove all ^M characters (Ctrl-m) from the XC.lic file if the information was sent to you
through DOS.
3. Save the changes to the file and exit the text editor.
4. Record the location of the file, because you need to know where your saved this file later
during the system configuration process.
During the system configuration process, you will copy this file to the appropriate directory
on the HP XC system, as described in Section 5.1 (page 77).
The sample XC.lic shown in Example 1-1 is included in this document for illustrative purposes
only; it is not intended for use and is not valid for the system.
Example 1-1 Sample XC.lic File
Hewlett Packard Company -- This message in its entirety may be placed into
your license file. Use an ASCII Text Editor to avoid introducing characters
which will invalidate the license file. If you have any problems installing
this license key, contact the parties listed on the associated license
documentation or web site.
