HP XC System Software Installation Guide Version 4.0

Table 6-1 Information Required by the cluster_config Utility (continued)
Description and User ActionItem
Specify whether you want to configure InfiniBand (IB) bonding.
With IB bonding, two network interfaces are configured to appear as one. The
interface has one IP address. If one of the cards becomes unavailable, network traffic
is automatically routed over the other card.
IB bonding provides improved reliability (no single point of failure) and higher
bandwidth.
IMPORTANT: IB bonding is not supported with SFS Version G3.0-0.
Configure IB bonding
If you have configured improved availability with HP Serviceguard, you are
prompted to supply the name of a quorum server or the full path to the device name
of the lock LUN.

clusters
One node in an HP XC system acts as an NTP server for all other nodes. By default,
this is the head node. All other nodes are NTP clients of this server, which is known
as the internal NTP server. All nodes in the system are synchronized to the head
node.
You have the option to specify up to four external time servers or to use the default
NTP server on the head node.
NTP server configuration
The /hptc_cluster file system contains configuration and log file information
that is required for all nodes in the configuration.
If you assigned the avail_node_management role to a node that is located in an
availability set with the head node, you are prompted to specify how you want to
handle improved availability for the hptc_cluster_fs service.
You can choose between no improved availability or enabling improved availability
of /hptc_cluster through attached shared storage.
To enable improved availability of /hptc_cluster the two nodes in the availability
set must be connected to a fiber channel SAN.
If you are configuring /hptc_cluster to be highly available, you are prompted
to supply the path to the shared storage disk. Any existing data on that disk will be
erased.

If you assigned the avail_node_management role to a node that is located in an
availability set with the head node, you are prompted to specify how you want to
handle improved availability for the dbserver service.
You can choose between no improved availability or enabling improved availability
through an availability tool.
IMPORTANT: To function properly, the LVS director and Nagios master services
require a highly available database server.

For systems with a QsNet
II
interconnect, you are asked to supply the type of network.
The network type reflects the maximum number of ports the fabric topology can
support, and it is used to create the qsnet diagnostics database. See Appendix H
(page 233) for information about how to determine the QsNet
II
network type.

For systems with a QsNet
II
interconnect, you are asked to supply the number of
node-level and top-level switches in the configuration.
