HP XC System Software Release Notes for Version 4.0

5.5 Notes that Apply to Imaging
The notes in this section apply to propagating the golden image to all nodes, which is
accomplished when you invoke the startsys command.
5.5.1 Do Not Use File Overrides to Customize inittab and grub.conf Files
HP does not recommend using file overrides to customize the /etc/inittab and /boot/
grub/grub.conf files on the specified client nodes because doing so might not work reliably.
Instead, HP recommends that you use a custom post-install script to customize these files.
Contact the XC Support team at xc_support@hp.com for information about how to use
post-install scripts to customize those two files on specific nodes.
5.5.2 Benign Message Displayed While Creating or Updating the Golden Image
The following message is displayed when the golden image is created or updated with the
cluster_config utility or updateimage command. This message is benign and you can
safely ignore it.
WARNING: failed to copy boot files from the image (ignore this warning if you
are not using UYOK).
5.5.3 initrd Errors in the imaging.log File
While imaging nodes, the imaging scripts try to create node specific initrd image files for all
kernels found in the /boot directory of the nodes.
If corresponding versions of kernel modules are not found (that is, in the /lib/modules
directory), the initrd image creation fails for that particular kernel version.
Typically, you must pay attention to these errors when the initrd image creation fails for the
latest kernel version (that is, the kernel from which the nodes will boot after they are imaged).
In the following sample, you can ignore the second error message for the
2.6.18-53.1.21.el5.6hp.old kernel because it is a backup kernel and is not used for
booting.
You can also ignore the last two errors because they are related to the older HP XC Version 3.x
kernels, which might be present in the /boot directory of upgraded clusters.

5.5.4 HP ProLiant DL145 G3 Node Imaging Fails When Graphics Cards Are Present
As described in Section 5.2.1 (page 20), the discovery and imaging processes might fail on HP
ProLiant DL145 G3 servers containing graphics cards.
The work around for the discovery failure is described in Section 5.2.1 (page 20), and the work
around for the imaging process described in this section assumes that all nodes were discovered.
