1 New and Changed Features
This chapter describes the new and changed features delivered in HP XC System Software Version
4.0.
1.1 Base Distribution and Kernel
The following table lists information about the base distribution and kernel for this release as
compared to the last HP XC release.

1.2 New Hardware Support
The following HP hardware models and third-party hardware components are now supported
in an HP XC hardware configuration:
HP ProLiant server models:
— DL365 G1
— DL585 G5
IMPORTANT: See Section 2.2 (page 13) for information about support for ProLiant G6
servers that has been delivered in a patch to HP XC Version 4.0
Attached fiber channel storage devices managed by Serviceguard for Linux.
The shared storage between the head node and one additional node must be of a type and
model supported by HP Serviceguard.
1.3 Upgrade Paths
Table 1-1 lists the supported upgrade paths to HP XC System Software Version 4.0.

1.4 New kdump Utility
The kdump utility, which is a reliable mechanism to save kernel crash dumps replaces the netdump
utility. Two major components to the kdump mechanism are:
a minimal kernel
initrd, which is a RAM disk file system that contains the drivers and the initialization
code that enable the kernel to operate during the crash dump.
The kdump utility is documented in the HP XC System Software Administration Guide.
